This website is collecting all information and media related to Sierra Online's golden years. Theres box art, videos and even a near-complete Interaction Magazine collection. I used to love those, tons of interesting inside info.

I'm sure I'm not the only Sierra fan on this forum ;)

This is done by fans, not the company. Sierra no longer exists really, just VUgames.

Ah Hero 6. I wonder if that'll beat DNF for development time? :D

Awesome site. Good to see the great classics get a little more attention. I did a Space Quest 4 remix for last month's Sci-Fi themed Dwelling of Duels competition and it came in 4th. I was surprised that there were a lot of Space Quest fans there (let alone Sierra or Adventure game fans!).

Is there any merit to Mask of Eternity? I had a mixed reaction to the demo when it was released, but I wonder how the full game was. The locations mentioned at the wiki site sound cool. If it's anything like a Zelda game, it could be cool. That's the direction they should have gone (which would have been difficult, since Ocarina came out the same year).

I'd play the demo, but it was almost impossible to find last time I looked. I wonder how easy it would be to get to run on an XP computer.

Edit: found the demo just fine at FilePlanet, assuming it works.

3dgamers (http://www.3dgamers.com) is a good site for finding ancient demos, I believe. Just for future reference.

Yes, but this group of fans is only posting information about Sierra's past. Not remaking video games.

Yeah but surely you don't want VUgames' third party QFG? I'd rather the series stay the way it is than to watch them butcher it's good name. If you ask me VUgames should sell the IPs or just put them to rest and release the games as freeware. We really don't need more Larry cellphone games or Lovage spinoffs.

I'd rather have another game. :o

It would be the MCL of Quest for Glory. 100% 3D action and no adventure elements, because you know VUgames would do it. Maybe first person too, with the gamebryo engine so it can look like Oblivion.

No thanks. ;)

Is this a general Sierra thread, or just things related directly to the website? In case all things classic Sierra are okay, a little review of the Mask of Eternity demo, which I have almost completed.

I have to play in software mode, because DirectDraw is a slideshow. 3DFX is grayed out, but I'm hoping I can make something with it in the full game. As it is, the game is reasonably ugly, but I can live with it since it's 10 years old. The controls are a little clunky, but I'm getting used to them. I like the item quest aspect and the puzzling, and the inclusion of dialog is nice. The voiceover work makes it sound like classic King's Quest. All in all, pretty fun until I got to this stupid stump puzzle!

You get to this field of stumps, and you have to jump to the correct ones to get across to a treasure chest. The wrong ones have a flame jet that burns you. Only thing is, there doesn't seem to be *any* way to tell which ones are okay. Some are wood, some are stone, but both types can burn. It all appears to be trial-and-error, which is totally unfair. I'm going to talk to the fairies and then the tree to see if they will give me a clue, but I think it's just save and try, save and try.

All in all, I'm going to buy the full version. I'm glad some UK company has put it back into print.

Edit: ^^^ Haha. Too late! The demo has won me over already. Probably be $15 I can never get back when it's all said and done.

They won't (and I hope they never do because you know they'll butcher it) but the Hero will always live in my heart. These games are my all-time favourites. Can't wait for the QFG2 VGA remake.

Aren't there a few fan sites that were not necessarily doing remakes, but like spiritual sequels to King's Quest and/or QFG?

While I appreciate the long hard work the TSL team has put into it, I'm not holding my breath for anything good coming out of it. From all the bad things I've heard from former members of the team about darkening the storyline and "maturizing" the characters, it's going to ruin King's Quest just as much as MCL ruined Larry.

The demo I tried way back when wasn't all that. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't. The fact that they need to retread old locations (something King's Quest always avoided doing save for a brief moment in KQ3) proves they don't quite "have it".

Have to wait and see when it's done I guess.

Ok, thanks for the link.

I looked up the QFG one and it's called Hero6. I can't tell if they finished it though. Doesn't look like it.

Space Quest had a fan project to continue a seventh game. SQ6's main writer was involved but that was years ago -- don't know where it is now. Also, AGD Interactive are still working on their QFG2 VGA remake. They're still polishing it. It's the only fan-made Sierra project that I know is still alive. Everything else is dead.

Nice, I rank QFG2 as the Castlevania 2 of the series. :o

I loved it, but it was very hard to navigate through those streets. :o

Well I don't know if the remake will change that, as it's nearly impossible to do that. It does have auto-travel though (but you still need to find the places first)

Wamplet

yeah, the one thing i didn't realize the first time around was the autotravelling. :o

It wasn't really that bad if you had a real map, but SHEESH.

I recently found my Quest for Glory diskettes. I never bought the fifth installment, but I've been trying to play the first four lately. Ahhh, memories... I thought I was quite the ladies' man because I could flirt with the Welcome Woman in the inn at QFG3...

awesome, i bought space quest 1 (VGA remake though) back when i was 13, and it came with a second disk full of demo's of other sierra games, it was great, i spent a long time going through them all, luckily my friend (his dad was a fan of sierra adventures) lent me freddy pharkas + leisure suit larry 5 and space quest 4,5 and 6. Then eventually i bought the collections. Sierra rules i love them probably just as much as lucas arts adventure games.

I found qfg5 at microcenter a few years ago. it was on clearance for $59.95

No new computer game was more than 49 gold.

...Holy craaaaaap.

Unfortunately, QFG3 is unbeatable on a newer machine:

There's a part where you have to give a dinosaur horn to the Simbani chief. However, you can't give it to him due to a timing bug if your computer is too fast.

Now, there are several solutions listed:

* Try to do everything really fast (this doesn't work for me)
* Use MoSlo (I can't... I'm using Vista, which stupidly doesn't let you play fullscreen DOS games, so I have to use DosBox, which doesn't support MoSlo)
* Disable your computer's L2 cache (damned if I do that!)

Nothing I do seems to get me past that part, so I've basically given up on beating this game, all because of one stupid part. A shame, too... it was the only time I'd managed to import a Paladin from QFG2.

i played qfg 3 on a really old laptop or desktop

forgot which, but the laptop was a p120 or 133 and the desktop was a 100mhz i think.

also in qfg 4, when you have to collect a ritual in the swamp, the same timing bug is there.

my only solution was to just play it on one of my really old computers. :(

QFG works fine, it just needs some elbow grease. First set the core to "normal" rather than auto or dynamic since the game doesn't need that kind of speed.

Next set the cycles to a low amount, like say 7500-9000? If that doesn't work, go lower.

If all else fails theres the unofficial timer patches:
http://www.geocities.com/belzorash/

Both QFG3 and 4 work with and without those patches, as I've finished them both in dosbox.
