I hope you all enjoy. This is 1 of 6 masterpieces i am working on for a Neo Classical album I am writing. I am aspiring to write my own electric classical music which kicks ass.
PS The piece you hear is actually played on the guitar I made by hand myself. Please comment on tone and overall sound :)

First off, calling something a masterpiece is pretty dangerous because it sets a certain level of expectation...
...fortunately, you can actually pull it off too! I love the 'second movement' personally, it's just really great allround... I don't really like the 4th movement though... I think it's a combination of the way the Bass sounds (VERY simplistic, which is amplified somewhat by the way it sounds) and the fact that it repeats quite quickly.
I think the second movement has some repeating bits, but I didn't notice so I'd say that's proper composing right there :)
As for the sound of the guitar... don't take this negatively, but 'flimsy' is the first word that came to mind (it stands out the most in the 4th movement)... it might be in part to the effect you're using on it... but it sounds a bit thin and as a result, it's sometimes difficult to make out what exactly you're playing... especially the faster bits.
Now to put this all in perspective, I heard the 4th movement first... in which these "issues" are most prevalent... then I heard the 2nd and it wasn't so much an issue... maybe it needs a bit of tweaking in the mix department, but I love it as it is. So this all may come off a bit heavy/negative but a bit of tweaking here and there would probably fix my mayor qualms with these... except maybe the arrangement of the 4th ;)

Heh its mainly bad mixing on my part. i just realised how loud the bass is and low the guitar is.
The tone of the guitar is different from my other stuff because the wood its made of, its actually a nice tone (In Person), it sounds sorta "glassy" and thats because its maple on an alder body guitar, which is all about high frequencies. As oppose to my other guitar which is rosewood on basswood, which is more about mid frequencies.
But thanks for that.
Its funny i had the same thing said bout the second the movement, my friend didn't like it. But he loved the 4th movement. I guess its hard to please everyone. I don't have a choice i like both for their differences :)

Guitartone is bit muddy to me. Certainly some nice parts there. Second issue is the drumsound, you should get some more professional sounding drummachine :) More variation to basslines, you could do some nifty stuff with bass & guitar together, and not just keeping bass on the back(it's mixed front, but it is backing) doing simple rhythm.

Yeah the key to this style is the bass maintains a root note for pitch axis. But I'm not a bass player, i just play the bass lines as a foundation for my melodies and the structure. But thanks.
Guitar tone is a bid muddy? Which part in particular was muddy?
Thanks

It's good, kind of reminds me of Carl P.E. Bach's Solfeggietto

Pretty nice stuff in the 4th movement, it's just that with that mixing and the fact that you stay on the same scale makes it a bit tedious to listen to. I could imagine this working pretty well with proper mixing though.
About 2nd Movement, all I can say is WOW. I really love that style of classical music and there are tons of awesome shreds and licks there that make it sound really awesome. Also the piano parts here and there work really well. I just kinda feel like this all requires some proper drums.

Muddy, as it is not as clear as it could be. Might be due your mics or something, I don't know what you use. Also, the mixing affects to this, since if the guitar would be more upfront, the issue wouldn't be as evident.
Thank god Opus hasn't been around lately, or this would quickly become a pissing contest of epic proportions.
Anyway, I'll give this a listen...

Masterpiece is not something one calls one's own work. That is something conferred to you by the world.

It was inspired from it, good observation.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Well In-adamant carbon rod, One can call ones piece a masterpiece if it is infact something that is aspiring to the rank of a masterly artist. This is my best work. And if you can do better you better show me.
UPDATE!
I HAVE JUST UPDATED THE SONG SO PLEASE RELISTEN EVERYONE... THANKS :)

Sounds a lot better already!
I just found out one of the qualms I had about the 4th movement btw... some pieces (especially in the earlier parts) sound a little too constructed... especially when you have those odd pauses in between sections. Also, just something I noticed that could make it sound a little more dynamic; Where you slow down the song, have the drums slow down as well (maybe half?) just to emphasize that.
Just a wee pointer ;)
Everything else is great though... I guess you just have to listen to it a few times.
I still love the second more though :p

Thanks Rider!
Wait till you hear 1st movement, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, and now 8th... :O I'm just working on the structure of them still. But I'm going to try to get all these on a CD. Still gotta finish the other pop instrumental album. Which everyone seems to like more.

I've completed a new movement! I'm on my 8th one now. Feel free to comment, its very dreamy. It was inspired after I had a dream that I was falling. So i wanted it to have that effect. See if you get it.

Hmm... getting a lot more Malmsteen-ish... I'm not sure that's a good thing...
So how are you going to get this on a CD? Surely your entire 'magnus opus' and the all the other tracks on this MySpace can't fit on a single disc...
Edit: listening to your earlier tracks... I find them to be a lot more original and a lot better to listen to then the Magnus Opii, save 'movement 2' which, I can't stress enough, kicks butt!

Thanks, yeah well my second movement i wrote before i started to listen to malmsteen, as i listen more to malmsteen the more i write like him. I don't know if its a good thing.
The more original stuff I wrote when I was on a holiday away from all influencing music - I was completely isolated, all i had was my guitar and my laptop which i recorded all that stuff on. The more I try to sound electric classical the more i sound like malmsteen.

Hmm... maybe you should get away from it all to write a true masterpiece then? ;)
Don't take my criticism the wrong way though, I love your work but in some instances I feel you could've done a lot better... so don't take this too hard, remember: it's just one man's opinion :)

You're right, i took some time away from listening to anyone, and i'm having alot more fun writing stuff that just comes from within. I will put it on myspace later, its quite interesting and of course it has some interesting changes.

Actually this sounds more like Patrick Rondat's Amphibia than Malmsteen in my opinion. You should check it out, it's good stuff.

I've put up my first movement.... I figured I might as well let you hear it. This is not what i'm composing now. Infact my ideas have gone a totally different direction. But i still want people to hear it and give their opinions.
Thanks :)

Quality wise I put it somewhere in between the second and the fourth. It has a "epic composition" feel to it, which I like, but it's still a bit "more then it needs" in some places... kinda what the 4th had... overall it's pretty decent though.
Can't wait to hear your new stuff btw, really curious what you're doing now :)
