I've got a beta ready if anybody wants to check it out. It's pretty rough, but I'd love to hear some feedback.

Download it here.

ok, i must say this map has some real potential. I like the "feeling" its giving off. There are some really nice rooms where u can feel the focus.

But before i start saying what u need to do, i must tell every1 that they need to make a copy of the texture file DW_Lavaworks.utx and name it DW_Lavaworks_Backup.utx for the map to actually load.

Anyway.. the main rooms I think you should concentrate on are.. these 3.

Possibly making the double damage on the floating lava the centre room, and having higher levels enter that room. I think u should ditch alot of the corrodors upstairs because they seem to get u lost. I know this is a beta so the lighting isn't upto scratch. But many of the places were just TOO dark, dark is good in small areas, but not everywhere images/icons/smile.gif . 2 more things I'd like u to look are the pickup placements which are in many cases too close to the walls, and when u finally come to put super pickups in place, make sure they're slightly challenging to get to and as far apart from each other as poss. IE Sheild in a hidden room high up. Keg O Health at the other side of the map somewhere down below.

Lastly, please look at how u creat the door ways between areas.. they seem too identical and boring images/icons/smile.gif spice em up a little.

I might have already said this b4.. but this map has great potential and I hope u do it justice images/icons/smile.gif .

Ok, it's a pretty kickass level visually, but there is no flow, and no connectivity.

I get the feeling playing your level that you perhaps tried to create it one room at a time, and indeed whilst every single location looks superlative, together it looks a little messy. Don't create levels this way, rather design a flow initially, and stick to it, or refine it. Flow is God, don't break it.

However, the textures are awesome, and generally, exceed the standard released with UT2003, however some of your textures are combined in ways that puzzle me; why not just pre combine them in photoshop?

The Static meshes are very cool, and are used very well, their usage is neat, and it's often hard to tell where the bsp ends and the meshes begin, which is really nice.

The lighting is cool, and the shadowing is neat.

Joe, there is a file named "DW_Lavaworks.utx" create a copy of this file and rename it to "DW_Lavaworks_backup.utx". Will run then.

Haha what a coincidence, I was making a level for the original UT called lava-works just a year ago!

But as for the quality of the level itself, I'll go with Theseus, I think he said it best. Also, I thought the lighting was a little bland, but certainly servicable.

Hey everybody, thanks for all the comments, they are very much appreciated.

Thesaurus: The reason the textures are combined in odd ways like that is mainly for download size and texture memory. Some textures I mixed with others to pull off a certain look. I reused those textures in many other places and tried to make them look different.

I agree with you 100% on the flow issue. This is only my first map, so the next one should be cool I hope.

Joe: Did you ever get a chance to check it out? I'm curious about what you think about it.
