Fifteen mini-games help to "dispel the illusions about nicotine addiction" and players can track their progress in kicking the habit using the "Path to Freedom" meter.
I never saw this one coming... What do you think?
I think it's probably one of the stupidest moves a game company can make. It actually made me laugh.
Discuss!

Not sure if they are doing this to actualy "help" with quitting or something to make money off peoples last ditch efforts to kick the habbit. If there is no scientific study to indicate this will actualy "work" then I can officaly say this is for greed.

Ah, since video games are officially targetted at children (source: J. Thompson), this could be a way to discourage them from taking the habit up in the first place. Why, it's a latter-day "Don't Copy That Floppy!" :p

Explain. Self help/Self improvement games have been around for years. What with all the Wii fits, Brain train games, Language coaches etc selling like crazy, what's so stupid about a stop-smoking game.
The idea of buying a game to help you stop smoking might sound silly, especially to a non-smoker. But making that game for the nicotine addicts doesn't sound silly to me. The market is definitely there.
For added hilarity though, I'd like to see Marlboro sue Ubisoft over this. ;)

It's based on this guy's book:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_Carr
Carr's clinics claim a 90 percent success rate in helping smokers stop.
Good for them if it's true.

Good for them if it's true.
I can personally attest to that :)
It would be really funny if this game would turn out to be pretty good on top of everything :D

Lets just say... Can you imagine what the minigames will be like? :o
Hell, it might even make some people want to smoke more...
I always thought the Metal Gear -lose health if you smoke- strategy was pretty good. :)

In BioShock, you gain Eve (power for telepathic abilities, for the uninitiated) but lose health. In System Shock 2 you just lose health -- I didn't notice any benefits... but I might not have been looking hard enough :o

You didn't notice how cool those mutant nurse things thought you were?
What about booze, didn't that boost your eve in Bioshock?
The first thing I thought was, "Think they'll ever make a 'Stop Drinking' sequel?"
Secondly, I thought of Captain Novolin (http://www.seanbaby.com/nes/egm04.htm).

^^ No, booze increased your health and decreased your Eve, like in System Shock 2. However, if you drank too much too soon in BioShock, you ended up drunk for a short while :insomnia:

Seriously, depending on how much money thrown at this (lots = bad) it could be a huge waste of time (both dev time and consumer time) and money.
Sparse amounts of money and it could be your next "hit".
