Damn it all.

It would be easier if holywood just collectively ripped my skull open and raped my childhood memories directly... :(

Wow. They've really run out of ideas, eh?! :D

So not a sequel, perhaps pitting the old-fashioned No.5 against more technologically-advanced modern opponents, but a remake? Yes, that's just what we need, thanks Hollywood. I suppose next it'll be Back to the Future :(

(Does anyone else think we should just have a single "Oh noes teh remake$!!!1" thread for all these horror stories?)

NOT AGAIN!!!

:ted:

This is... the end of the artistic world as we knew it. Tomorrow we'll have a Gioconda remake, probably...

Yes.

It probably shouldn't have been made, never mind remade.

Hmm... they hired the original creators and writers, huh? I guess that's not too bad.

Maybe they will resurrect Steve Guttenberg's career for a cameo! :o :D

Every realization is as shocking as the last, unfortunately. It's no less surprising each time it's made obvious. First it was "War of the Worlds" and now it's this. :(

Never liked the original.

Besides, if they end up copyuing the original look, people might say "They stole it from Wall-E!" ;) :)

Anyone else noticing the time between an original film and its remake becoming shorter and shorter?

Well, I mean after the second one, there really isn't anything else to do.

There's no more NOVA being after him, he's happy, or well...umm...emulating happiness. He's sporting a nice new look, and he's got a toy line.

They should just leave well enough alone, Steve Guttenburg and Indian Stereotypes don't work anymore. I think.

Did you think there was anything else to do after the first one? He seemed pretty happy then too. The only reason things took a downturn is because he decided to check out urban society.

Foster, who produced the original with his partner Lawrence Turman and son Gary Foster, said the film will be similar in theme to the original, but it will factor in advances in technology.

I translate this as:

This will essentially be the same as the original film, the only real noticeable difference being the replacement of the physical Johnny 5 Robot with a CGI version, so he looks all smooth, articulated, has a working mouth, and performs mid-air flips like Sonny in I-Robot.

Honestly, I don't see how literal advances in technology could play a role. J5, as for what he's supposed to be in the film, is still a very advanced robot IMO. Not much has really advanced in robotics in the past couple decades, and most of the credit we can give to better modern robots is really just faster processors, which J5 clearly has, otherwise he would've run out of memory within 10 seconds of being activated.

That's not relevant. This is a remake, not a sequel.

i bet this time around it has mech warriors instead of the adorable number 5.

and a flamethrower instead of a laser because they just look cooler and lasers are just too '80`s

No problem. He seems agreeable to being photographed (http://thesuperficial.com/2008/06/steve_guttenberg_still_alive_m.php).

One only has to look as far the Hulk. Making another movie just because the last one (which happened like two seconds ago) failed is not a good idea.

Oh boy, another remake. I don't think all remakes are bad (I actually want to see Spawn remade because the film that was made just doesn't do it justice), but Short Circuit was good as it was.

Besides, if they end up copying the original look, people might say "They stole it from Wall-E!" ;) :)

Like reviewers said the Evil Dead games were a rip-off of Resident Evil? :o

Aw. It just doesn't need remade. I suppose they are probably thinking of redoing Johnny 5 in CGI.
But the physical model had a certain charm ;)

There was also nothing WRONG with the physical model. Everything worked exactly as it should've, and any limited capabilities it had, they were able to work around.

In short, it's not broke.

An IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0929281/) page is up

Set release date 2010.

Some people on the message boards don't seem to happy ether. But who would. This will totally suck most likely.
