Hello all.
While technically not a 3D Realms game, the first Rune was made by Human Head Studios who are the makers of Prey. It's a great 3rd person hack and slash type of game with Nordic/Viking mythology/themes and I'd really like to see a follow-up of some sorts. A full new game for current-gen consoles and PC would be great, perhaps using the Unreal Engine 3, but I would also be satisfied if they only made a budget multiplayer-only standalone expansion, maybe with the Unreal Engine 2 and new gameplay mechanics. What I would like to say is that it would be really great if you guys backed up Human Head on creating something new Rune-like. They need publisher support and us fans would like to point that such a game could do great in terms of sales. But it also needs to come on consoles of course.

Rune is one of my all time favorite games!
They'll eventually do another one, though it might be a long way off. There's a few things the PC version needs to adhere to, IMO:
1) Bots for multiplayer. This is not negotiable.
2) Do not fall into the "Street Fighter" trap of having zillion-keypress special, hidden moves in multiplayer. Rune 1 style will be just fine, thank you.
3) Do not evolve the player models from nimble & agile into huge, lumbering tanks the way UT did.
That is all.

Have the Demo on an old PC Gamer CD, played it and loved it. Never bought it on account of I dunno, I just didn't buy it. From what I played of the Demo it was really awesome though, almost as good as Nocturne.

You should get it, if you find it cheap somewhere. We could bash our skulls in multiplayer then. :)
Anyone remember this (http://www.runegame.com/vbf/showthread.php?p=319745#post319745). Here's the petition (http://new.petitiononline.com/rune2/petition.html) (that probably wont do a thing, but one can dream, right?)
Rune is also one of my most favorite games.

That would be pretty cool. I get paid Friday maybe I'll have to pick it up on Amazon or something.
EDIT: Looks like ~$5 on Amazon.

Well if you look at this job ad you can see that HH is planning a teensy weensy expansion: http://www.humanhead.com/headhunt_jobs.html#controller_job

Rune is the only game I've played that has got melee action done right. I don't think Rune sold very well so I'm doubtful a sequel is coming but it would be nice to see.
Does anyone want to maybe start playing this game again, like start tournaments or something?
Isn't rune just about super boring hit and run melee attacks? Move to enemy make attack and hope that you pressed the attack key before you pressed the backwards key to avoid the enemy's attack. (-,-)

Are you talking about playing against the games AI, or other people? I'd agree that it gets boring in single player against the AI, but in multi player I'd have to disagree. For anyone who hasn't played it (probably quite a few), Rune uses the old UT engine. In DM & TDM picture some fast action, but instead of people running around shooting each other you actually have to get in close for a kill (unless your skilled at throwing). Arena game mode is what I mainly play when I play online, 1vs1, 2vs2 etc is very different then the DM flavored game types because everyone has access to their weapons of choice before the match begins.. theres no limit to how many weapons you can carry so theres plenty of variety if your good with more then 1 or 2 weapons.
I was pretty bored of standard DM/TDM/CTF game modes from the many hours I spent playing Doom, Quake etc multi player to death.. Rune was a breath of fresh air back when it was released simply because no other melee games have a multi player portion to the game like Rune has, which makes it unique. The combat system in Rune is easy enough for anyone to pickup and play, but theres lots of room for creativity in your attacks once you get a firm handle on your weapons of choice.

Oh man, Rune was such a memorable game. I used to use cheats a lot and mess with things. I spawned NPC's, made smoke in some colors, killed some things in caves with God mode. It was great and addicting messing with it

I have tested to play it single like 1 time and multi 1 time. And most melee fights in games are just hit and run. Am I right in this game? And is that that you find that to be fun?

The appeal for me is that its 100% melee based, but you have as much freedom of movement as a shooter like say the old UT (the only UT I've played more then once). The Jedi Knight games come close, but they also have guns and the only melee weapon you get is a lightsaber. I can precisely control which attack I want to use at any given moment, I can also move the mouse to control which part of my weapon is going to make contact during the attack animations while still moving where ever I want to go.. even has the dodge ability like UT :)
If you've only tried the multi player once I doubt you have a good enough feel for it to judge the mechanics. Rune is alot like other multi player games, it can completely change your game experience depending on where and who your playing with. I've been in a few clans over the years, met some great people and had alot of awesome battles in the arenas.. no other melee game comes close to Rune when we are talking about multi player imo.
