View Full Version : Sad news regarding nyne

This is a message from Sherry, one of his closest friends. Sherry posted it on another forum, but she agreed to me posting it here too.
This is gonna be a shock to many, as it was a huge shock to me and I'm still having a hard time grasping that it is real.
At some point last night (Monday June 16), nyne passed away. I'm not passing on the details right now as I am kind of a mess, but I will say he suffered major trauma to his head due to a massive fall on Sunday and he didn't make it. His birthday is next month...he would have been 27.
My cousin, his best friend, was with him when it happened. I just got back from his parents house (he came home from Toronto last night), and he told me what happened. I knew something had happened because people were asking me last night about it and I had no idea. I didn't want to believe the things I was hearing. I still don't.
I just wanted to share this with all of you. nyne hasn't been around much here lately, but I feel you all deserve to know this because well, he's been apart of these forums for years.
This is very, very sad news. Ryan, you will be missed. :(

Joe just alerted me to this news. That's horrible... I remember the guy, he used to be more active here six years ago. Any info on what kind of fall it was, and how it happened?
My condolences to everyone who knew him. :(
edit: I was just telling this to Joe:
This probably isn't appropriate to say for some reason or another, because there're much more important things in life... but he didn't live to play DNF and I remember he was always a fan and posted in the DNF forums. Remember that thread that analyzed the shit out of the 2002 trailer, and George was like you guys should stop because you're finding out too much of the game? I think he was the one who started the thread, or at least he was one of the most active participants in it. Poor guy... I only knew him through the forums so my memories of him are pretty much limited to game related things, which, while may seem trivial, are still something.

Bludd
06-19-2008, 04:05 PM
Well, I can only go by what I am told, but Sherry has confirmed it.
Here's what she wrote about half an hour ago
I read about this in the paper on Tuesday. My heart goes out to his family, friends, most importantly Sherry. From what I've read, he died doing something he loved. R.I.P RyanHe really did. Him and my cousin were gonna go somewhere with their art and music talent. What a price to pay for the perfect shot.
This is a link to what happened. (http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_23897.aspx) Though, he passed on Monday, not Tuesday.
I'm so glad I didn't see the news that night. My cousin can be seen at the end of the footage, and I would have recognized the building as they've been there before outside and have posted photos. I would have freaked. I've seen the footage now that it's online but man, if I saw it live...
I am doing ok now. I'm starting to accept it, but it's still very very hard. I keep wondering what went through his head as he fell. It really bothers me. My cousin and I are trying to keep positive, and we keep remembering stories about him that make us laugh...like the time he fell asleep on my front lawn when we were 17. Or the time him and I thought we won a trip to some tropical place off a pizza box (there was a contest at pizza pizza called crack the cardboard and win). We were mislead and the trip was actually 10% off our next vacation if we booked through this one travel agency...but we were so excited when we thought we won! Shrieking and cheering and just so much excitement! lol!
Even though I didn't see him often, I already miss him. We didn't talk often either, but we poked each other on facebook daily, so even that little connection was enough to know that he thought of me. Silly I know. But it was something. Something I won't get anymore.

I think the use of the word "Intruder" in the news article rather callous too.

A pine tree was planted in memory of Ryan here in our home town, by the company he worked for.
They had the plaque unveiling today and it was really nice. It's nice to have a place to go and feel like you are with him, since he was cremated and has no gravestone. I plan to visit the tree often.
Thank you all for the nice things you've said about Ryan. I have told his parents about how his death has affected many people around the world, in this forum and the other one he posted at (I had read this thread a while ago). They were amazed at how many people knew him in other countries. They too would appreciate all the nice things you've all said.
Ryan really was a great guy. The last time I saw him was last New Years (2007-08). We hung out at my cousins apartment in Toronto, just sitting around having some drinks. I remember him going through my iPod and commenting on each and every album on there. Of course, in Ryan's eyes, most of my music was CRAP...so I heard a lot of "that's crap", "that sucks", "oh this album is ok", "what the HELL is THIS on here for?", "oh you have redeemed yourself for I see NIN!" etc. But hey, that was Ryan and he had a distinct taste in music!
I really wish this was all just a dream...
