Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this sort of thing, but does anyone know of any good sites or communities online where I could recruit people for a freeware project? No, I'm not looking for professionals, just people who want to make a game together just to say they did and for the love of it. I don't want to hire anyone, either.

You could give moddb.com a try..but it tends to suck now that they redid the site.

Revolution Games Network (http://www.rgngames.com/media/rgnplay.htm)
Unfortunately it's not done yet.

I'm actually facing up the same problem. I'm in dire need of a programmer and a texture artist, and I have no clue where to ask around.
It's easy to get people to help you solve some minor coding parts out and so forth but to actually find someone interested in working on your project seems like a wasted effort.

Nah, none of those are really my thing. I'm thinking something more along the lines of the forum at TIGSource, only not discriminating against people who are making freeware games for free and are looking for people willing to do the same.
