View Full Version : Crash to Desktop when loading new level

I can play all the way up to the end of the first level (after crashing the subway train through the wall) at the point the loading screen pops up it loads about half way and crashes back to desktop with no error messages.

The only thing that happens is my start menu looks corrupted. has black and other objects on it. once i resize the start menu the corruptions go away. I do have max payne updated to 1.01.

Windows 2000 (SP2)
Asus A7M266 mobo (latest via/amd drivers)
AMD Athlon 1.4 ghz T-bird
Asus V8200 GeForce2 Deluxe (12.90 drivers) <-- have tried 12.41, 12.60.
SBLive Platinum
512 pc2100 DDR Ram (crucial)

P.S. Thank god for the level selector mod out there. with this i was able to finish the game selecting each level individully. what sucked was i only started with a berreta after i used level select. (the last level was a bitch)

Thanks

instead of using asus's 12.41 drivers i installed nvidias 12.41 drivers and I no longer crash to desktop while loading a new level.

What sucks is my Video in/out on the asus geforce 3 no longer work because i need asus's drivers for that... this needs to be looked into. Thanks

Bengalvfan, is this with V1.01? Ie. have you installed the patch?

I experience the same problem here. When loading a saved game and sometimes when loading a new level the game exits. Sometimes directly to the windows screen (like described above) and sometimes with a very strange error message (something like "Exception: Read of the end of an R_MemoryFile(<path and filename of my savegame>) Closing...").

My config:

- Athlon 1 GHz
- Win ME
- Creative Geforce2 GTS
- the latest Nvidia driver
- Patch 1.01

I tried various settings in Max Payne´s options but nothing seemed to help.

Coruption on save/load here, too. I am running on 1.01. Specs:
Win 2000 (sp2)
Elsa Erazor III (TNT2) - with Elsa drivers
512 MB RAM
SB Live! Value

This proplem is so much bigger than I thought. Just take a short look at this forum http://www.veforums.com/Forum33/HTML/000031.html . Six pages full of descriptions of the same prob, this is roughly 150 posts. Of course I tried the solutions proposed in the Max Payne faq, and of course it didn´t help.

Remedy, pleeaaase take this seriously. I was able to play the game in the beginning, but now I can´t load any of my saved games anymore, one of the worst thing that can happen to a player.

Try the new nVidia 12.41 drivers. Max Payne was crashing on me every time it went to load the next level and since I installed the enw nVidia drivers as opposed to using the Asus drivers it works fine.

I also changed my AGP apeture size to 128 Mb and selected Allow LPT interrupt sharing under SB16 emulation settings.

My system:

Athlon T-Bird 1GHz on a Asus MB
Asus V7700 video Card
SB Live 5.1
768 Mb RAM

using the nvidia drivers instead of the asus drivers worked for me also. But now my asus geforce 3 card does not have the video in/out capability and other games play like crap.

The game crashed to desktop while loading a
new map.

My ASUS geforce 3 used the supplied vs 12.60
drivers

Since I downloaded and installed the ASUS 12.90
driver I have no more problems playing the game
