View Full Version : Improving frame rates

I'm running on an AMD 1.2 gHz, GeForce 3, 256 RAM (and Windows ME), and playing Max Payne at 1024x768x16, with texture depth at 16 bits, and trillinear filtering, with all the other settings maxed out.
My frame rates seem to be in the high 40s averaged out, and drop to an unacceptable 20 fps during gun fights. I'm currently using the beta nvidia Detonator 14.7 drivers.
I've seen the benchmarks saying that I should be running MP at at least 60 fps at all times. Can anyone give me a solution to my frame rate problem?

Hmm, depending on how the Ge force 3 card works (and I'm not sure how it does) make sure that you're running in Direct 3d T&L HARDWARE mode, but also increase the colour depth to 32 bit.
As on my radeon (64MB DDR Vivo) the frame rate difference between resolutions is less in 32 bit mode. It's something to do with the way it buffers or something. Fact is, that I tend to get higher frame rates in 32 bit
Other thing is, there's no point running all settings on high, as i couldn't notice the difference. Running all on meidum will give you a shockingly increase frame rate
btw, my spec just for reference in case is
Athon 1.3gHz
512MB PC133
ATI Radeo 64MB DDR Vivo
Windows 98 SE
no point in giving the rest unless it's useful

Killja, I've been trying to get the solution to this problem for weeks, with no success.
I have a Pentium 1.5 GHz, 256 MB RAM and a 64 MB GeForce 3, very similar to your setup. I'm running Max set up exactly the same way as you, and I get atrocious framerates in gunfights as well(especially when using the ingrams).
I've posted multiple topics on the subject over the past few weeks, and all I seem to get are "me, too" responses. No one seems to know what the problem is. And to make matters worse, many people with "lesser" systems than you and I are reporting no slowdown problems at all.
Sorry I can't offer you a solution...just sympathy. images/icons/smile.gif

This is a bit of a long shot, but it worked for me.
Go to device manenger and set your monitor as a standard Plug and Play device.
Hope it helps.
