I bought max expectin a great game what i got however was the f****in crashing every time it attempted 2 play a level i downloaded the patch and.... it didnt work had it 3 weeks and it looks like i wasted my money

Have you tried disabling the Aureal HW acceleration?

Try: Go to Control Panel. Double-click on "Aureal Vortex Audio." On the first tab, there is a check-box for disabling 3D hardware audio - make sure it is checked.
