Sorry for the dumb question, but I simply cannot get used to using a joystick type controller.
I like the precision of the mouse and keyboard setup and was wondering if anyone has gotten that setup to work with the Xbox.

I have had that setup. I played Halo 3 and COD 4 like that on the 360. I HAD the mouse and keyboard adapter by the name of the XFPS 3.0 Sniper Plus. Check it out here:

However, you may be wondering why I HAD that setup? Because the adapter sucks. I mean really sucks and I sold the POS. You will not get the precision of the real deal. It was so bad I went back to the 360 controller.

Not possible, Mouse and keyboard controls are not recognized by the Xbox architecture. You can plug a USB keyboard in there, and it will be used, but only places that accept text input.

As was pointed out there are adapters, but it will not be the same as you are used to on the PC. You're probably better off getting used to the 360 controller, once you master it, it will be worth it.

When we started development the first week or so was a problem for me, and then one day it just clicked.

Heh... Well, seems to me that the controller can be too cumbersome for an FPS game, imo. I mean, even tho I have played Halo 3 and Orange Box on the X360, as well as COD games, Duke 3D and Doom, imo, are far better via PC-style controls, just like the old days. There are just certain titles that once you play on one platform, you just can't get used to a console version once you've fell in love with the PC version of those games. I dunno why that is.

If you REALLY want to use mouse and keyboard to play on the xbox360, why not try one of these:
http://www.xcm.cc/XFPS_3.0_Sniper.htm

http://www.xcm.cc/XFPS__3.0_Sniper_Plus.htm

Allows you to use mouse/keyboard combo for FPS games on the xbox360.

You can get them from these resellers:

Hope this helps anyone who wants it.

True, I only wish that Logitech would've created the same mouse/trackball combo unit for the X360 or PS3 like they made for PS2 way back when. That was an awesome unit, and think that it would equally work great this day in age...

I don't really know why there is no support for keyboards and mice on Xbox 360 - PS3 has that support. It's up to devs to decide if they allow them to be used in their game(PS3).

The Xbox 360 controller is the best of the padtype controllers, even if it's a bit small.

It's a Microsoft decision.. i.e. MS will not allow it. Sort of a "couch potato" thing. They don't want developers getting lazy and neglecting to write their code with the core controller in mind. Ever try playing with a mouse and keyboard while slouched back on your couch?

Despite this, I've played a few FPS games (mostly on the original Xbox) where the developers did just that: no aim assist, no 'subtle' stickiness when aimed at a target (like the Halo series has), no fine tuning for the sensitivity of the sticks, etc.. just a horrible shooter experience on a console when you can't get your crosshairs on an enemy (who's dancing around like a monkey on crack), and meanwhile EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS SHOTS hits you. Die, respawn, die ad infinitum.

Don't ask me to name specific games, I's old and going senile. ;)

As for the Xbox controller being small, I liked the original Xbox controller (now called the "Duke" oddly enough).. only never could get used to the oddly slanted and "too close together" button layout.

If only MS would put out a version of the old one with just the A,B,X,Y buttons in the standard 'plus' layout, and the white/black buttons replaced with the bumpers of course, for the 360, I'd like to give that a shot.

The "Duke" was, by far, the most comfortable controller I've ever used (aside from the aforementioned button layout issue). And how cool would it be to play Duke with your "Duke" on the 360?

Maybe starting a letter writing campaign to Microsoft will get us the above for the 360 by the time a DNF port hits the box, decorated with the mug of our favorite ass-kicker. :D

Depends on the demand; how many of you would like a controller like the above?

I heard with the original XFPS, the KB worked fine but the mouse was laggy :(

The mouse lag hasn't been fix in the new versions, either.
