OK well I got tired of being in that thread as it was getting kinda long. Plus as much as I Love to start "flamewars", I'd rather not for this specific topic.
On the last thread, I read the last post. Then I read this part:
"Playing online isn't the only option... Single Player and LAN are common options as Duke Nukem 3D was not originally intended for Internet Play. It was for LAN, Serial, and Modem."
Well I can beat the single player in a few hours and what are you saying "it was not intended for Internet play."
Well then whatever happened to the Total Entertainment Network?
I think I know what "LAN" is but those other words are strange and foreign to me. I want Internet play since none of my friends own this game.
BTW whatever happened to TEN anyways?
(Oh and please stop calling me a troll.)

TEN wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_Entertainment_Network)
Just like all the pay match making services from them days (dwango, heat, mplayer)went belly up or got bought out.
Also i think the fact that id,blizzard and other influential developers started embedding match making services into their games didnt help subcription bases companys also.
Gamespy and Xfire(yahoo) pretty much dominated the market.
Kali.net is still around but support is about non existed from what gathered from message boards.

Simple Google search...

The game Duke Nukem 3D "was not designed for internet play" is what I was saying... which is clear and concise. T.E.N. (Total Entertainment Network) was a third party service and was not affiliated with 3D Realms that gave older non-internet games some level of functionality over internet based computers. (e.g. Windows) I used T.E.N. years ago but can’t remember how it worked and don’t care to take the time to look it up. (nor am I asking others for information I could easily look up for myself) T.E.N. has long since died off as implementation of internet TCP/IP protocol into modern multi-player games is a fairly standard, therefore removing the need for a service like T.E.N.
Duke Nukem 3D was not designed for internet TCP/IP.
L.A.N. Local Area Network. Generally, Ethernet based connections between a group of computers locally, like in the same building, not across the internet or WAN (Wide Area Network). Duke Nukem 3D could use a protocol called IPX (IPX/SPX usually) on a L.A.N.
As far as being a Troll... stop being one and you will no longer be called such... a troll is one who enjoys drama, conflict and other negative turmoil in chat rooms and message forums like this one. To quote you (Jacob) “Plus as much as I Love to start "flamewars",...” You have defined yourself as a troll in your own thread, in your own post, and don’t wish to be called one? You state in your own post you enjoy something that is a direct violation of the 3D Realms Message Board posted rule. Personally, I hope they ban you.

Damn, outsmarted yet again...
As for the part when I said I loved to start "flamewars", I was being sarcastic, as pointed out by the quotation marks, "".
Sorry my reply is late, I was inflicted with Strep throat. But now here's my response:
Why you little.... you think you can outsmart me with your computer skills and/or genius?
I paid 10 bucks for this game, spent my ass off trying to download a "port" and can't get it to work online. I don't own an Xbox, I own a Wii. AND a Windows Vista. Everything is preventing me from ever playing this game.
When Duke Nukem Forever is released, I just know it will be ported for Xbox 360 or that piece of garbage Playstation 3. None of the consoles I have will work with it. Oh and just one last kick in the balls, I read that massage "Personally, I hope they ban you."
For what? I haven't even done anything wrong. srsly

[Note: quoting malfunction.. not sure what I did to break it, and I'm too lazy to try to redo this long-ass post - SplatterHappy]
LAN = Local Area Network: two or more computers connected via router, etc locally. These are sometimes referred to as an "intranet" or "internal network".
I'm not too sure, but there probably aren't alot of people playing Duke3D on the internet after 12 years, especially in light of the fact that it takes a bit of work to get it to play over TCP/IP (stands for Transmission Control Protocol over Internet Protocol.. in a nutshell, it's how computers talk to each other over the internet).
Duke was originally designed to use the (now mainly defunct) IPX protocol, which stands for Internetwork Packet Exchange. Although the "Internetwork" part contained the word 'internet', its rather misleading.. IPX protocol was primarily for internal networks.

First off, the whole "I paid $10 and am furious" attitude really cracks me up.
Stop, think about what you're saying and you'll laugh too. :D
Secondly, the Wii was never designed to have the horsepower for top end cutting edge 3D shooters. Nintendo knows that and has admitted they went with lower hardware specs to keep the price down. For developers of said games, it means they have to tone down the graphics, chop up their levels, etc. Lots of additional work to create a port.
With the Xbox 360, Micro$oft designed the console to be easy to port to, after all, Windows is their business.
PS3 is not quite as easy to port to from what I understand, but it is just as powerful (if not moreso) under the hood as the 360, so developers may have a bit more of a learning curve to port, but they don't have to cut down the quality of their game in the process.
Price you have to pay for going with the lower powered console with the innovative controller scheme.
You said you have Windows Vista; my bet is, before 3DR releases DNF for the PC, they'll have it up and running in Vista. Of course, your PC may be woefully underpowered and incapable of running it at that time.. :(
Might be cheaper when DNF comes out, if indeed it's ported to a console, to just buy the console it's ported to. That might be a few console generations away, so you should have time to save up. <joking - U no ban me pleez, Joe! ;)>
None of the above was meant to slam you or flame you in any way, Jacob.. you seemed to have questions and my natural inclination is to try to teach when possible. Probably should have went into the teaching field.
I try to be a nice guy in my posts (although my sense of humor gets in the way some time).
BTW, I think you meant "message", not "massage" ("The assessment and treatment of the soft tissues and joints of the body by hands-on manipulation.")
Not too many folks in the forums giving out massages (that I know of )
I'm going to stop now.. this is turning into a novel.

In The Post Thread Reborn we do. ;)
TEN is dead.
To play Duke3D online you need to coordinate with people and read manuals etc. There are a few threads here (use the search function because I don't feel like doing it for you) that discuss in detail how to play Duke3D online or over LAN using any number of combinations of ports and network tools.
I don't know what else to say that hasn't been said.

The question was answered. The thread is closed due to the pissing match - don't need that. If you guys want to argue like that with each other take it to PM or email.
And yes, if the trolling continues further action will be taken.
