What with the 30+ quality titles coming to systems of all forms in the next few weeks. I figured Id start an all encompasing "What do you want and Why" discussion thread. With all the titles coming out alot of them really are underhyped, Know of a game thats not getting the acknowledgement it should? Post here and garner a little more support for your games of choice.

1) First on my list of games to buy Fable 2, the first game was short but ammusing. Not as great as it should have been. And honestly I found an issue with finding a sword early on in the game and having it last flawlessly until the very end. With the full simulation world, actually changing through your actions, with supposedly 100 hours of content you really cant miss this one. Ill be getting the LE day one of release.

2) Day after Fable (Cursed Gamestop Marketing) Ill be buying FarCry 2. Spiritual sequal of the origional, Whole game is open to you from the start, a full 50 sq/Km. Dynamic story reshaping itself around your actions and buddies. Fire that acts like fire, spreading from grass to trees to buildings. Gorgeous landscapes and a fun selection of weaponry. A map editor like no other, hopefully this games Multiplayer will stand up to the other powerhouses coming along side it. With the free pre-order upgrade, Ill be getting the LE day one on shelves (at GS of course :censored:)

3) On the 28th the long awaited continuation of the classic franchise, Fallout3. Alot of people out there still do not trust their beloved Fallout to Bethesda but personally I love the idea. I loved Morrowind, and Oblivion. I enjoyed my brief stays in Fallout 1+2 and I actually enjoyed Brotherhood of Steel. As a long time fan of movies and animes like Mad Max, Fist of the North Star, Desert Punk and others there really is nothing to prevent me from getting this game. Day of Release will be bought (standard edition and possibly guide book).

4) On November 7th a game that needs no introduction, the sequal to the hardcore classic Gears of War. Fixing all issues with Multiplayer and bringing the gameplay back in line with Epics origional vision. Increasing the length and story components of the campaign to give a deeper look into the past and future of your soldiers and the world of Sera. With an updated Unreal Engine backing the game it adds a whole new shine (well layer of grit) the the graphics. Cannot wait, will be at the Midnight release for Gears on November 6th, well 7th, well 6th going into 7th. Anyway another that cannot be missed.

Those are just my 4 choices from the countless coming out. Others I will most deffinatly be renting but just didnt wow me enough to force a buy include:

Dead Space: Great game but like most survival horrors once you play through the first time things start to stagnate.

Saints Row 2: Loved the first but since I still dont have 1k/1k in GTA4 I dont need another sand box (well besides the other 3 Im buying -_-) to spend hours in.

Mirrors Edge: Taking the underground sport of free running (parcor?) into the future, as you become an illegal messenger getting hunted by The Law. Deffinatly looks like a great rent.

Bionic Commando: Looks like a great sequal to the origional game from way back. Have little to no knowledge of it but gameplay videos look like its deffinatly worth a rent if not a buy after a price drop.

Left 4 Dead: It looks like and fun, and could be quite fun indeed. I see it as a flawed concept considering the quality of players your bound to pick up over XBL. If its with friends that enjoy playing together looks like a great addition.

I know all my choices are 360 games, and well I only have a 360 as my comp is incapable of playing almost anything with worth. I would enjoy for all systems to recieve some attention in this thread so if you have a Wii, PS3 or are waiting on a new PC title post it. Would be a great read and I can send folks from other boards here to get ideas on what to buy.

Left 4 Dead is the must-buy for me. Everything else is peripheral.

Man, where to start?

1.
Left for Dead (PC). You kill zombies and what's not to like about that? :p Also, I just can't wait to play with people here

2.
Gears of War 2 (360). I'm a Gears fan and I'm interested in what the game has to offer. I've already preordered it so there you go :) I also hope Dom dies. The useless POS he is :)

3.
Mirrors Edge (360). Man, it looks so different in terms of looks and gameplay. I NEED to play something different and this is it.

4.
Rockband (360). Yeah, yeah, yeah it's a music game thing. But I want it :D

edit:
5. Red Alert 3. I can't believe I forgot that! It's Red Alert... 'nuff said. :p

FarCry 2 and Dead Space.

My only two must buys. :)

I'm passing on Fallout 3 as I've been letdown constantly by previews, media and word of mouth from those that have played it.
I'm excited/interested in Left 4 Dead, but given how I hate online play... it's gonna take a demo to convince me.

After those I'm keeping an eye on Legendary and Quantom of Solace. I liked the demo for QoS, short, but it was fun. And Legendary looks to be original in the overcrowded shooter genre.

CoD:WaW I'm watching from a distance, with Treyarch behind the helms I'm not sure I should even bother. Their past CoD games have been meh at best.

Mirror's Edge is the last buy for me this year. :)

Gears 2, didn't care at first, got excited with the whole "Ride a Brumak" bit... and then completely lost all interest a few days after that. Since Gears 2 can't hold my interest for more than a few seconds... I'm not gonna bother.

The other titles I'm looking forward to don't launch until next year.... F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, NecroVisioN and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Far Cry 2 is the only one I'm really interested in.

While Im anxiously awaiting the 4 I mentioned, ya Im most waiting on Far Cry. The only thing I really see that could make it better is the ability to shoot through walls ala CoD4. It would be a massive addition as far as immersion and realism goes. Though it could by all accounts make it far to easy. It is africa and every building is made of freaking sheet metal, run in with a saw and cut a whole camp down from behind a building.

Unfortanutely I'm not very excited about anything this holiday season, which is a stark contrast compared to last. Next year looks amazing though.
Some stuff I will check out though:

Fallout 3
Dead Space
Deadly Creatures
Mushroom Men

Can't wait till next year.

Its always like that.
However this year seems to be down right flood of games this holiday.

With the expected slow holiday sales this year.(nations economy)
You would think they would of spread it out a bit more this year.

Anyway my wish list.

1.Fallout 3: Survival Edition (preordered)

Hopefully get as gifts
2.Final Fantasy XIII
3.Wario Land: Shake It!
4.Left 4 Dead

I'll have to go with FarCry 2 and Tomb Raider Underworld.
I would throw in Mirror's Edge, but I read that it's coming out in Q1 of 2009 for the PC.

And I may of, just might of, worked out a way to get a 360 (hardly used) for pretty cheap...I'm talking less than 100 bucks. If things work out that way, I don't see what could stop me from getting Fable 2.

I don't want anything! I don't buy games when they first come out, too pricey and too buggy (though a few come out at a nice price and aren't too bugged, like the Strongbad eps and BCR)... :p

So unless DNF happens to come out this year (HAW!), nothing for me to buy... :o

Left 4 Dead - sounds too much fun to pass, everything I've seen supports this
Dead Space - Even Horizon, the atmosphere, and to support EA so they continue on this new chosen path of making original IP and quality games

Possible:
(Far Cry 2) - checking the reviews, if it's a good shooter I'm sure to grab it
(Fallout 3) - waiting to see how the reviews see it first
(Red Alert 3) - remains to be seen too, campy humour, overblown graphics, great gameplay hmmm...
(Mirror's Edge) - again, highly original idea, from DICE. Will it sustain itself as game? So reviews first

Yeah, and all that for the PC. I don't own a Xbox 360 :( Fable 2 & Street Fighter "IV" would have been a must buy for me otherwise.

Where is the love for MK vs DC Universe? :)

Ive lost love for most of the 3D fighters, with the exception of Soul Caliber and Dead or Alive. The last few MK versions that have been 3D have just been far to convoluted, what with the iffy quest mode type crap. The combos are so over blown its pathetic. I mean back in the day with the origionals their combos were long but simple. Each with around 5-6 buttons alongside a toggle slide, easy to remember, they were also responsive. I remember Dark Alliance, man if you finished attacking and your opponent wasnt either airborne or on the ground you like stood their stupified for freaking ever giving your opponent ample time to pull their combo.

PC versions, of course :)

I might as well get NFS:Undercover, if it turns out to be really good.

2) Day after Fable (Cursed Gamestop Marketing) Ill be buying FarCry 2. Spiritual sequal of the origional
It's not a spiritual sequel. A spiritual sequel doesn't use the same title.

I'm excited most for (360):
1. Dead Space
2. Mirror's Edge
3. Far Cry 2
4. Prince of Persia
5. FF XIII

If out by Christmas ->

For Wii:
Tales of Symphonia : Dawn of the New World

For DS:
1. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
2. Chrono Trigger

Probably the only game I'm really excited about is Fable 2, because I want a huge and intricate world that I can sink 50 hours into.

I may get Fallout 3, but it depends on the reviews; the E3 demo was a pretty big letdown. Far Cry 2 looks interesting, but I wonder if the gameplay will hold up for the game's 25+ hour single player experience.

Hoping that Mirror's Edge and Left 4 Dead will live up to their hype.

10-11-2008, 11:12 AM
Farcry 2
Resistance 2
Mortal Kombat vs DC
Street Fighter IV
Call of Duty World at war

nothing for pc getting new one sometime, but that's for Diablo 3 and DNF next year (hopefully)

I think this year will end really expensive for me:

# Strong Bads Cool Game for attractive people - the remaining Episodes
# Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 coming up - Online Multiplayer against friends is just priceless (thats if it works - damn laggy POS that PES2008 was)
# NBA2k9 - will be checking it out and if it turns out to be good it will be my first Basketballgame since NBA Live 2002
# Left4Dead - but i wait if the Demo convinces me of the concept
# Penny Arcade Episode 2
# GTA IV PC
# Dead Space - gory bioshock in space? totally checking that one out
# Red Alert 3 - BIG maybe - the Beta is so inbalanced its just not funny in any way - if EA fixes this i will get it
# FarCry2 - sound interesting at first and boring as hell for the long run - so i wait till friends tell me if its worth it or not
# Prince of Persia - Loved the Sands of Time Trilogy and i like the new Art Direction
# Warioland Shake It - looks like some solid Plattformer

So many games, so little time

We really are spoilt for choice this year.

Pre-ordered Far Cry 2, Red Alert 3 and Left 4 Dead. I’ll wait until after Christmas to pick up GTA 4 and Prince of Persia ; by which time Resi 5 should be out.

The only fly in the ointment could be the system requirements - I'm hoping the Far Cry team doesnt pull a Crytek on us.

True but Far Cry 2 has nothing to do with the Island of Dr Moroe style story from the first. Maybe "Tech Sequal" of the origional or would that be Crysis (dont have a comp to play it). Its just the first game you could go anywere but on top of that mountain in the distance there was nothing. This game is completely open world so if I climb that hill there just may be something up there.

Resident Evil 5 isnt coming out until March of 09, last I heard I think. (Could have been May, just woke up thought is hard)

Deffinate:
Dead Space
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Prince of Persia
Left 4 Dead
Scene It? Box Office Smash

Probably:
Spiderman: Web of Shadows
Far Cry 2
Fable 2
Gears of War 2
Mirror's Edge
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

Too many freaking games this christmas and the Aussie dollar has gone to shit (was worth like 96c earlier this year now it's worth 65c) so importing is going to be the value saving it once was.

The game I'm getting as soon as it's released is Left 4 Dead, but there are quite a few I really wanna' play one way or the other (rental, budget, play at friends house, etc.):

Gears of War 2
FarCry 2
C&C Red Alert 3
Fallout 3
MK vs. DC (yes, I do think it could turn out well, probably not great, but how many MK games are?)
Street Fighter 2
Pure

And of course there's other must-buy titles, like Dawn of War 2, FEAR 2 and DNF, but those are 2009 games apparently.

Far Cry 2 may have nothing to do with this "Dr. Moreau style" but it doesn't have to follow the same theme or use the same character to be a true sequel. Also, I've never heard of anything called a "tech sequel" (ie. no such thing) but FC2 doesn't exactly share the same tech as Far Cry 1. Far Cry 1 was based on the CryEngine 1, while Far Cry 2 is based on Ubisoft's proprietary Dunia engine, although it contains roughly 2-3% of CryEngine 1's code.

Deffinate:
Dead Space
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

I recall having a long list last year but I think it more or less turned into Bioshock and UT3 in the end. NFS was a huge disappointment.

Anyway the games I am pretty sure I will get:

Far Cry 2 (PC)
NFS: Undercover (PC or PS3)
GTA 4 (PC)
Left 4 Dead (PC)
Mirrors Edge (PC so technically not a holiday game)

And the maybe list:

Fallout 3 (was optimistic from the beginning but lately it has looked very stale and boring)
Dead Space (I don't see it in the videos/previews but the things everyone are exited about are things that I should like)

Is that new Wii shooter (forgot the name) coming out this year or later? If this year then add it together with a Wii as maybe. There is probably a few more maybe games I am forgetting.

I gather the bolded ones are what you take exception to?
Well Scene it is the most played party game on my xbox but questions are repeating so an update would be appriciated. Nothing really crazy there.
Fable 2 is well... how many co op action rpg's come out generally? Plus apparently I can kill anyone so everytime a shitty cockney accent pisses me off I can just stab them through the face. That alone fixes half my frustration with the first game!
And the new spiderman? Well spiderman 2 was a great game and most previews show this one has potential. It's hardly a day one buy but it's something I'll consider post reviews/demo.
Gears of War 2. I don't' think Gears is anything special but it's solid and as mentioned earlier co op is something I enjoy heavily.

Fallout 3 looks pretty interesting. Can't go wrong with Oblivion with guns. :)

Mirror's Edge still manages to have my interest, but I'll see how I feel after the demo comes out. I'm hoping for a Portal-esque experience, but I'm not holding my breath.

Despite the reviews I'm still interested in Silent Hill V (what happened to Team Silent?). I may get it off of Steam.

For some reason the hype for Dead Space just hasn't done it for me. I feel like I've tread that ground before. Far Cry didn't get me first time, so it probably won't happen this time unless people start stopping me in the street or something.

When will a few good Wii games come out? The only time I turn it on is when someone comes over and wants to play Wii Sports.

Wow, I didn't expect a nice explanation to my dickish comment. Color me pleasantly surprised.
