I have a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 Pro graphics card with the the new downloaded driver (I forget what it is.) and a VIA PCI Audio controller (WDM) sound card, again with the new driver. (Funnily enough on the diagnostics screen I can't test the sound and get results unless I push the bar all the way to the left-whats going on there?). Now I have an AMD Athlon Processor ~1002 Mhz which I think is the mother board (I'm not that computer literate. I have 128 MB RAM, more than enough memory, and a processor that can obviously cope. So could someone please tell me what the hell is making this game crash after roughly 15-20mins play. I see other people on this website accepting this because they can get through the game by rebooting everytime. I, however, am not one of those people. I want answers and I want them now. That last comment is directed in anger towards the makers of this game. I direct a kindly plea to other gamers who might have similar systems and can help me. PLEASE I'M DESPERATE.

Do you have a VIA chipset?
If you do, download the latest 4 in 1 drivers for it from either VIA or guru3d.com.
Umm, report back if that fils and we will see what else might be going on there.
Oh, have you got the latest MP patch?

How would I tell if I had a VIA chipset? All I definately know is that the soundcard is integrated into the motherboard. God knows why. Which one driver should I download? Lastly, I uninstalled all the software for my soundcard and reinstalled it to ensure only the best driver was on= VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WCM). I then played the game but it was constantly slowing down, especially when the gunfire comes in. I still don't know what to do.

Hope i can help you - i had the same problem with almost the same hardware - somehow the ac97 sound chip doesnt seem to work - so i bought the cheapest soundcard - that can handle directsound - an put it in - driver was ok i checked that at their webside - and suddenly it works with no problem at all. Anyway i thin a real sound card will be better than this onboard stuff - so much luck

Is it possible to fix this without resorting to getting another soundcard? I can't believe that games as old as Thief 2 or Age of Empires 2 won't work on my computer. It's pretty high-powered. This sucks.

Download 3D Mark 2001 (http://www.madonion.com) and look at the system info area under motherboard. It will tell you.
If you do, get the drivers mentioned above, they can be downloaded here. This may help.

Sorry for my late reply.
But yep, what Joe3DR said. images/icons/smile.gif
Also go here http://www.guru3d.com
Go to the boards there for everything hardware related, the people here know there stuff.
To be honest though, get a PCI sound card, they are cheap enough and they do sound much better.

I also had a TNT2 Ultra and have the VIA on board. I tried all of the above BS and none of it worked. Perhaps it is this combo or just the TNT but I replaced the TNT with a Radeon 64 DDR and low and behold no more lockups, boot to desktops
freeze on exits or any errors at all. Did have to make some modifications per this forum to solve the freeze on exit. However.......the brightness controls are not functional. Have to use gamma correction from the control panel/display. The game is still too dark for my liking. Then afterwards I have to go back a readadjust when done playing. Common guys,,,have a heart. I certainly hope the is a fix coming from somewhere.
