I finally received my tax return and decided to treat myself to a Visiontek Xstacy GeForce4 Ti 4400, a definite upgrade from my 'old' GeForce2 MX 440.

I installed the card earlier today, then ran Max Payne on it. All I can say is: images/icons/shocked.gif !!! Let's just put it this way. After cranking up all the settings and switching on the card's Quincunx antialiasing (which made a universe of difference), I was playing through some levels and realized that I was leaning forward, with my face just inches from the screen, almost as if I wanted to be sucked into Max's world. I felt like I was walking through an action flick (without a single cough in framerates), it seemed that real.

Somehow the textures were richer, the lighting and shadows more pronounced, and because all the details were turned up, it felt more immersive.

Whoah, I guess I'll have to go back now and play the whole game again. Heh, heh, thanks Remedy and 3DR. images/icons/wink.gif

Antialiased Max.... just the thought makes me, to quote The Rocky Horror Picture Show, "shiver with antici----pation." images/icons/wink.gif

This is the first and last time I'll ever say this but...God bless Nvidia. graemlins/love.gif graemlins/love.gif graemlins/love.gif

Unless you have Photoshop set up with proper colors, do yourself a favour. Try out colorific for a while (www.colorific.com I think). You never knew how much colors could make a difference after trying that. Candles actually GLOWED on the screen, everything that should look fresh did and so on, an amazing tool if you haven't got other color setups...

Bask, please do give our friend Megla the Maniac a tall cold glass of Pepsi. That should wake him up.

What resolution do you have it on Homoludens?

Eh, it's only on 800x600, Rott. I'd get a bigger monitor but I can't afford it atm. Still, the upgrade in graphical effects is mindbogglingly mindblowing. images/icons/shocked.gif

BTW, has anyone else here played AquaNox? I did the demo with all the settings cranked up, and my jaw stayed on the floor the whole freaking time. We're talking undersea peaks and valleys with light refractions, radiosity light and shadows travelling over them in real time, and light passing through the waters, and colours you'd never thought possible. The whole undersea world glowed and shimmered!
