I just installed Max Payne and for some reason i get an error when i try to play it. The game installed fine but when i click "Play" the max payne logo shows up as usual and instead of the game starting it takes around 5 minutes for the error to occur.
Heres a screen of the error:

I got a 1ghz Athlon... Any help appreciated

Open a Command Promt window, and type SET.
Copy the "TEMP" directory (probably C:\Windows\Temp), and paste it into an Explorer window.
Send all the crap in there to the Recycle Bin.
Reboot and try running Max Payne again. The reason I suggest rebooting is because something about starting Max Payne causes a "Setup is updating your configuration files..." to happen on the next boot, and I suspect it's related to this TMP file.

Also, both the mysterious TMP file and the "Setup is updating..." message on the next boot do not happen with the "un-Safedisc"ed version of Max Payne, which is why I suspect this is Safedisc issue.

??? I've never seen that before. Have you installed the 1.01 patch yet?

That file gets created in the TEMP directory (probably when Safedisc checks its key to unlock the .exe), but I've never seen it cause an error before.
I noticed that file right away, since I'm one of those ppl that's anal about deleting garbage off my hard drive. images/icons/smile.gif
