Xbox 360 NXE Avatars

If you've used the Mii's on the Wii, you get the idea of how this works.

You can choose from a preset list of "cookie cutter" items. The selectable lists are generally larger on the 360 than they are on the Wii. So no, you can't create a Duke - not the way you are thinking. You can't draw your own so to speak. From what I've heard the "Home" thing on the PS3 will have that level of customizability, but on the 360 Avatars, it's like the Mii in terms of that.

The closest I was able to do with that was on my devkit 360 where I've had the nxe since the day I came back from surgery. Here's what I was able to accomplish on my devkit trying to make a Duke. Makes Duke look like he's 10.

Joe's Duke approximation looks like a 12-year old trying to cosplay as Duke. :p

I just landed in Thailand for an extended stay, planning to pick up an Asia region Xbox 360 while I'm out here and see if I can get NXE onto it. AFAIK there aren't any region restrictions on this dash update, even though Xbox Live isn't "officially" supported in Thailand to my knowledge. It'll be an experiment.

Uniqueness in your avatar is a good thing. I just don't see enough possibilities as they've got it now, for how many millions of players. Plus as capable as the 360 is why not use that ability?

I don't really remember, but MS probably announced additional items about the same time they announced the actual Avatars.
Hopefully we'll get a few more free choices, as I agree there should be more items, and of course there will be paid content, probably by third parties as well as MS.
Developers can choose (I guess it's their choice, MS (dis)approves) to supply items to players as they unlock Achievements as well.

Is live down because of this upgrade? I tried to login to GFWL through Fallout 3 and it's giving some nonsense about the EULA changing and I need to agree with it. I click continue and I get a big "this page doesn't exist" live page. So.....GFWL broken or is it down for everyone?

This is like any Xbox software update, obligatory.
It's quite the makeover though, so the update is a bit bigger than you may be used to.
You also need a hard disk.
(Before, MS managed to make everything fit on a dedicated internal memory.)
No skipping or going back once your box is updated.

You shouldn't want to either, it doesn't feel cheap, it feels slicker than before.
I'm especially fond of the new Guide.
I'm sure Avatars will be really popular, except for with the people who consider themselves so hardcore that they have to hate them, but you can pretty much ignore them.
You won't be seeing any Avatars walking around in Gears of War 2, and if you play more casual titles you're not that hardcore anyway. :)

The fourth is a mutant, who appears to be wearing the same clothing that several of y'all are. :)

I actually have about another 30 of them on my 360, but they're all local non XBL accounts. My kid constantly wants to make a ton of them. She loves doing this.

Hmm.. I wonder if I can edit the templates to show the NXE avatar underneath the regular avatar if someone has data entered into the XBL Gamertag field next to posts. :)

Tehy really failed at the whole design aspect of this. Without basic ability to change scale, rotation and position of elements means that the majority will just pick the same generic parts and they won't really look much like anyone. The more abstract Mii's while far from perfect allow for the user to create a far more recognisable interpretation of a person.
