I'm having problems exiting the game. I have slowed down the sound acc.. The game gets closer to a full exit but no go. Any advise? I have downloaded the lastest patch but that doesn't seem to help with this problem. Is there going to a patch put out specifically for this problem?

post your full system specs/driver versions. but first, take out your soundcard and uninstall the sound drivers then try to exit the game.

Thanks Spazer,
When you say full system specs, what does that mean? Not to sound dumb but if I remove my soundcard won't that cause all of my sound to go away. Plesae educate me on this.
Thanks again
PS. All drivers up to date

Woody,
I am having exaxtly the same problem, same spec system as yours same sound card etc except I am running an Athlon 1.4.
Gets to about 5mm from full exit and crashes every time although the game runs fine. Disabling sound on my system makes no difference either. What a nause having to reboot every time.

Hey Laws,
Thanks for the response. Yep, same exact thing. The game runs fine except for the exit problem. I tried playing with the sound with no luck. It's just a pain to have to reboot when exiting

This should fix the problem:
System lockup when exiting the game
===================================
Problem:The game locks up when you exit the game
Solution: Enter the Multimedia properties, change the playback & Recording device to game compatible and also reduce hardware acceleration for the sound card.
Solution: People with a modem that supports "Voice Audio" may need to disable the audio properties from the modem preferences.

Ah yes, I do have a "voice modem". Problem is it doesn't have an option to disable voice feature. I went to the properties and didn't see it. Do I have to remove the modem all together. By the way, it isn't the speaker level that you are talking about is it?
Thanks Again

Please look at the following:
http://forums.3drealms.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=17&t=000210
Let us know if it works cos Im interested!
Right, I've just tried the voice modem thing stated above and I can confirm that on my machine this solves the exiting problem, heres what to do:
1) Open Windows Control Panel
2) Double-click the 'System' icon
3) Click on the 'Device Manager' tab
4) Double-clic 'Sound, video and game controllers' section
5) Double-click 'Wave device for voice modem'
6) Click / check the 'Disable In This Hardware Profile' box
7) Press 'OK' for both open windows
8) Restart
Max Payne should now exit correctly, regardless of your sound hardware acceleration settings, many thanx to PetriRMD for making this possible.

Dudes, this workaround came about on the Voodoo Extreme forums while these were down and Max was just released. The lowering of the sound acceleration was the first workaround to come out on fixing this problem, then I posted that disabling the modem had the same effect. Later, I found out that it was only the "wave device for voice modem" that only had to be disabled. PetriRMD had nothing to do with this fix; it was all of us on the forums there knocking our heads together trying to exit Max. Thank the Remedy guys when they release a patch for this; don't thank them yet.
The official help site for Max later included these workarounds and others that we all banged out while on the VE forums.
Again... thank them when you get a patch instead of a workaround. images/icons/mad.gif images/icons/mad.gif images/icons/mad.gif

To anybody that has or had anything to do with workarounds and or solutions... Thank you. This is what makes this forum and places like it awesome!! There is quite a pool of talent out there. It blows me away. I have learned so much here not just about MP but other cool things and awesome sites.

By the way, anyone considering changing the sound device to 'game compatible' don't bother, it disables the hardware acceleration options and turns of sound hardware accelleration, the result?....the game sounds like shit, all the effects sound chopped and theres a delay in the sync of the sounds.
My bad....apologies, props to the people at the Vodoo Extreme forums for discovering these fixes images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif much appreciated
oh well i just started disabling stuff and it worked when i disabled my modem.. i guess because that also disables my wave device for my modem so hey whatever

Problem with the modem workaround was not being able to connect and having to always enable / disable it, with just the wave device there are no settings to change before / after playing MP and you can still surf.
