I am running a Dell Dimension L733r system with no specialized graphics card - only the on-board stock card. I understand that I need to buy and install one for this game to function. Can anyone suggest a card that would be great for my system?
Thanx

Depends on what you have to spend. If it doesn't matter the cost I'd go with a GeForce3 or a GeForce2 Ultra. Both of them run the fastest of any video card. Really the price is not unreasonable on either, check on Pricewatch.com for the best prices.

Hey Gord,
Here is a good article on the GeForce 3.
http://www4.tomshardware.com/graphic/01q1/010227/
It includes some info on the GeForce 2 (130.00)and the ATI Raedon as well. These are the cards You will see most at the Best Buy's and Comp USA type stores.
I opted for the Readon 64 DDS as a mid range (200.00). Few more features than the GeForce 2.
The graphics are incredible in Max. The GeForce 3 is about (400.00) A little pricey due to the fact it is the latest and greatest.
You might be able to find a Voodoo or TNT 2 for around (99.00) They are getting harder to find since NVIDIA bought 3DFX. Get as much on-board ram as you can afford. 32 or 64.

Hey Gord,
I forgot to mention. Max has a slight problem with the Raedon card. The brightness slider in the game is not functional. I think Quake III had the same problem at first. There was a console fix in Quake that made the brightness slider function. With Max I had to download ATI's new Beta drivers. They include a "game" gamma adjustment that is separate from the general Gamma adjustment. You cannot adjust brightness while you are in the game however.

I understand that generally the Hercules GTS Pro Geforce2 and Ultra have gotten some of the best reviews-other than the Elsa Gladiac Geforce3 of course but I could put a down pmt. on a car for as much as those are going for. I opted for the Radeon 64 as well b/c of the TV out and some other features. Although not always impartial, check out reviews @ PCmag.com or pcworld.com then buy OEM from a pricewatch.com seller. Much cheaper usually.

Forgot to mention that if you buy the Radeon make sure you download the 7115 drivers b/c Max won't work correctly w/out them. Found that out the hard way.

The Nvidia Vanta is not good. Simple as that.
Gord, if you are looking for a graphics card, get a GeForce 2 or GeForce 3 cos the driver support is far better than ATI.
For anyone with an ATI card, Im not saying there a bad card, but in the future, the drivers for the GeForce cards will be updated more often than any ATI card!
