Wishlist 2009

So here we are again, the end of the year draws near, let's share our expectations and wishes for the gaming world in the upcoming 2009. This includes games (releases, media, anything), hardware, technology, events and everything else related to gaming.


There is only one game that eclipses everything else for me (no surprise I guess), if there's anything released about it, DNF can get cancelled or HL2E3 can be scheduled for a release 5 years from now and I wouldn't care:

I have to say, I've never been a fan of F.E.A.R. I didn't like it after playing the demo and well, I played the full version 3 years after its release. And I still don't consider it to be anything groundbreaking. But I like the story, combat is awesome and it's a pretty damn solid shooter so I'll try the sequel.

Half-Life series are great, what else to say? The story is perfectly presented and I can't wait to see what happens in this concluding episode. Valve, hello? Where's my Episode Three?

As for technical stuff:

If there's anything related to graphic technology that I'm looking forward to, that's new Carmacks tech. If he pulls infinite geometry off, that's gonna be a total blast. O_O

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams /I absolutely loved BioShock and I dig the teaser
The next stalker (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 3: Apocalyptic?) /what did you expect from a dedicated stalker fan?
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty /I'm eager to see what comes out of the whole idea of making three huge campaigns. Plus, it's gonna be insanely fun to play, that's for sure.
Prey 2 /still waiting for more Prey
Portal 2 /I'm intrigued about them not wanting it to be just a mere expansion but a whole new game; I wonder what's to come
Alan Wake /drop the Vista-only bullshit already! :mad:
Rage /I want to see how 'the new direction' for id works out; but I must confess, something I already said some time ago, I only look at Rage to imagine how DOOM 4 will look 3 times better :love:
The next Frictional game (Unknown? Lux Tenebras?) /Penumbra is freaking awesome, need more horror from Frictional Games
Project Offset /is it still alive?



A side note, about DNF, last year when I started the wishlist thread (actually it was exactly last year, December 17th) it was interesting timing because two days later DNF teaser got released. Wonder if the similiar thing happens again...

Mafia 2 is my big #1. No other game comes close.
Next: RAGE, Doom 4. Huge id fanboy so I WANT.
Also Wolfestein.
StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Okay, I can't hate Blizzard for all the crap they have done recently. Yes, Zuljin is dead. Yes, Raynor has a new voice... but it's StarCraft. I'll cry every time I hear the new Raynor, but he's too awesome to pass up.

Also Ghostbusters.

I guess Prey 2 and Duke Nukem Forever after that and to round if off Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

Other things on my radar but don't really care: Diablo 3, Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II and FEAR 2.

Depending on release dates, it might end up just Mafia 2 and StarCraft 2. Like if RAGE doesn't come out but EP3 some how does, then I'll get that. Of course if DNF comes out I'll get it right away but I'm not as psyched for it now. Of course if a release date is given it'll move to my top 3 wants. :p

One thing I am afraid of is a new X-Com game. They started Bioshock as a System Shock 2, but then made it an FPS... if they start their X-Com as X-Com and then make it only the tactical combat or make the managment nothing... UGH.

Is this a list of things we want to be announced/released or things we're going to buy?

Because the only concrete things I know I'll be getting are:
Empire: Total War - The games only get better, and this is going to be incredible.
Dawn of War II - Half-Dawn of War, half-Company of Heroes. Hell yes.
Killzone 2 - Good console shooter with high production values and good online multiplayer. Sounds great.

That's really it because I'm trying to cut down on my gaming/money spent on gaming, and I'm sure those'll all be good anyway.

As for long-shot hopes:
Episode Three - Yep.
Hitman 5 - Can't get enough of it. Hopefully it's optimized well or maybe the console versions don't suck. They need to be played on PC.

Hmm. In no particular order: DNF, Black Mesa Source, Rage, Doom 4 , Wolfenstein, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Prey 2(Will soon reach its 3rd year in dev, so hopefully we will see some media/info in the next 6 months), Earth No More(Anything by Radar Group and their dev partners really).

Incarnate I would guess would be a 2010 or even 2011 game. Although hopefully we will at least get to know what the dev studio for that is in the new year.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin - This is my top game, the title I'm most interested in. No other game above it. Feb 10 can't come soon enough.

NecroVisioN - Given what Hellbound has told me in PM, the media shown and that it's coming from the original team that made Painkiller... hell yes. :)

Aliens: Colonial Marines - It's Aliens, that's all I need.

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - More Riddick. Escape From Butcher Bay was awesome, possibly the best game released in 2004... and that's saying a lot. Dark Athena will be awesome.

Mirror's Edge (PC) - While I know the response to the console version has been mixed, I'm still very interested in playing this.

Half-Life 2: Episode Three - After how awesome EP2 was, EP3 just needs to be here. Now. I hope Valve make a 2009 release.
Castle Wolfenstein - This could make a 2009 release, and I really hope it does.
PREY 2 - I don't see it making 2009, given the extreme lack of info... I see an early 2010 release. But I can dream it will make 2009.
Doom 4 - Given how id works... not 2009, but it would be awesome.
RAGE - Released WID. But id did hint at late 2009, early 2010.
Singularity - Raven's new shooter, damn near no info... and no reason to believe it will release in 2009... but I can hope.
Serious Sam 3 - Same as above, no info... but I hope. :)
BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams - ^^^ ditto.

You don't need solid release dates to anticipate info or media.

As far as Prey 2 goes, Prey had a pretty long hype time(Around a year or so?) because then they where launching a whole new IP, that is not the case with Prey 2 obviously, so maybe they are going with a shorter hype period this time around. Also I think it was in October 2006 that Scott Miller said that he expected a 24-28 month release from then on. Obviously that didn't quite pan out as expected. But still it is sequel so it shouldn't take as long as the original(Thinking strictly about the HH version here, 2001-2006).

I am curious about StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 could be interesting (I am willing to give it a try). I will also tack on Deus Ex 3 since I didn't not enjoy the second one.

Other than that I am not that excited about much in games anymore.

I do want to see what type of control devices get pushed this year. We got the Wii with it's IR motion detection etc and wireless controllers are common now. Rock Band et al have brought some interesting controllers.
I keep hearing about this madness that the Mouse will be dead soon. But I want to know what is going to replace it in the gaming world. I am interested in seeing what people turn up.

I am also interested in where game engines go from here. How much more realistic will they get before we get VR/Holodeck. . .

Well next up is infinite geometry and the elimination of textures as being seperate from geometry(id Tech 6). Sadly that will involve things getting even more static in terms of lighting and shadows. So we are still ways off from that.

As for 2009, you guys reminded me about Black Mesa mod coming and Earth No More. I've been looking forward to Reca|| to He||, Foreverhood (Zdoom based game) and Demon Eclipse (DOOM 2 mod) but I'm left with Demon Eclipse, because Foreverhood appears to be dead and Reca|| may not be released (however I hope it will).

Take-Two has announced its product line-up announced to date for the remainder of fiscal 2009 - Ends October 31, 2009.

The big hitters include BioShock 2, Borderlands, GTA 4 The Lost and Damned, GTA 4 Episodic Content (for 360) and Mafia II. Of these titles it's only BioShock 2 which remains without confirmed release platforms - the first title was released for Xbox 360 and PC in August 2007 with the PS3 version hitting stores as recently as October 2008.

Take 2 probably doesn't even know when DNF will be done. But that doesn't mean the game won't ship by the end of their fiscal year.
Also, if they end their fiscal year October 31, that means technical "next year" can include outside of their fiscal year.

Bioshock II - which will be released on PC, 360 and PS3, but release date not known.

Red Orchestra "Darkest Hour" - release announced as January '09.

Half Life 2 Ep3 - No release date announced, or release year for that matter.

Black Mesa Source - anounced will be released in '09, but month unknown.

Couple more real good DN3D SP maps - Several will be made, as they are every year. :)

MINERVA: Out of Time - The follow up to MINERVA: Metastasis...supposed to be partialy finished, but who knows when Adam will release it since he now works for Valve. :mad:

The Crossing - Great looking game from the makers of "Dark Messiah Might and Magic". However, no media at all for over a year from Arkane Studios.

I cannot say DNF until we get conformation that it will actually be made. Correct me if Im wrong, but there is no conformation of this. I dont belong to this forum because of hopes for DNF (although I do hope for it). I belong to this forum because of DN3D...a timeless classic.

I'm adding Zeno Clash and NecroVisioN to my "keep an eye on" list. I explained the reason for adding the later in the appropriate thread. As for Zeno Clash, I absolutely love the art style and the setting. Sick, twisted, weird, unique. I'm not too thrilled about the focus on close combat but it certainly looks and feels different so I'll see how things are going on with that one. And NecroVisioN, I'm most likely buying it but I'm gonna base my final decision on the demo and possibly opinions on the full game.

I don't really want to reiterate any of the staples of this thread, so I'll list some odd ones:

Captain Rainbow - quirky game based around Nintendo characters, by the creators of Chibi Robo.

Castlevania [untitled] - for the 360/PS3, hope they can get back into 3D (if it is indeed 3D) and drag along some new customers.

Demigod or "League of Legends" (the former is GPG developed DotA clone, LoL is a DotA clone helmed by the creator)

Bayonetta - by Platinum Games (MadWorld). This will probably be my first Danté-like experience (whatever genre that's called - DMC)

BattleForge - RTS which uses decks of cards to make units and use powerful attacks, by an EA studio: hoping it isn't subscription based (although I thought I read it was)

Ninety-Nine Nights II (by new dev [for the series]: feelplus - creators of Shadow Hearts and Lost Odyssey) - hopefully they can drag the NNN series out of the dirt.
