Splash and crash

Hi,
Im having a problem with Max Payne, its not even loading the game. I dont get any error messages. I click on the MP icon and the little MP slash screen shows up for a couple of seconds while my CD-ROM sounds like its loading the game. But nothing happens after this! I've tried installing the patch; I've tried reistalling directX 8; I've tried installing it from different CD-ROMs; I've tried installing the 1.01 patch; I tried installing it from my CD-R/RW; I've also updated my display drivers to the most current versions available; I feel like I've tried everything to get it to run at all but it just will not work, on my PC.

Just want you guys at Remedy to know whats going on. Maybe you can fix this problem. Good Luck!

Try disabling DMA for the CD-rom you want it to use. I had the same problem and it worked for me.

I had the same problem. I tried everything.
Called the PC-Manuf.Hotline: Got several hints.
Result: PC didn´t start. Answer: "You have to install Windows again..."! Wonderfull. I managed it to run Windows again without re-installing. Only MaxPayne didn´t run.
Talked to the Take2-HOTLINE (four times !!!).
Installed everything new: nVidia drivers, Direct-X, CD-Brake, re-installed MaxPayne, re-installed the Patch, diabled v-sync, cd-rom cache and so on ....
Result: Max Payne did not run, Other games which run perfectly before now didn´t start !!!
After I "restored" my old settings I searched for a no-cd crack of MaxP. in the Internet, found one and - I couldn´t believe - MaxPayne runs perfectly.
It´s not the software, it´t not the PC, it it the
f.... Copy Protection !!! (Of course I have the Original-CD !)
What the hell did Take2-Hotline tell me when I called them 4 (four !!!) times ??????

Hi Ekima,

I purchased a retail copy of Max Payne. After installing the game and the updated patch it crashes at the windows desktop. I'm running a P4 Processor on a Asus P4T MotherBoard with 256 meg's of PC800 ram, a Visiontek GForce 3 video card and Windows ME. My CD drive is a Toshiba DVD SD M1212 and my Hd is Western Digital ata 100 7200 rpm 30 gig.
