Can anyone explain the beginning of Max Payne 2?

He is making love to a woman in a mansion and then ends up in hospital with multiple gunshot wounds claiming he has killed her.

Who did he kill and why?

Why was he in hospital?

Sort of! Mona has reappeared but I'm sure I saw her dead body riddled wih bullets in a lift in the aCER building in Max 1. But I'll be patient.:D

In MPI, she got killed, but in MPII, play the highest difficulty, dead on arrival, to find out.

Or she just didn't die in MP1. She says "the bullet in my head brought me to you" or something like that in Max's third nightmare in MP2.

The girl he does it with in MPII is Mona Sax. He killed Winterson, a Detective, apparently, and all the bullets he took and overdose he had of painkillers in MPI is why he was in the hospital.

Max just shot her. I actually haven't even thought about it but maybe it has something to do with the fact that Mona and Max were after Vlad and Winterson was on Vlad's side.
