The much anticipated sequel to last year's smash hit Max Payne has been announced at E3 today, and guess what? It's "Max Payne 2". images/icons/smile.gif Take 2 announced today that Rockstar Games, in conjunction with Remedy Entertainment, has begun development of Max Payne 2, a sequel to the blockbuster hit Max Payne. 3D Realms will be producing Max Payne 2, as we did with the original Max Payne.
Originally developed for the PC by Remedy Entertainment and produced by 3D Realms, Max Payne debuted as an award winning and top selling PC game in July 2001. PlayStation®2 and Xbox(TM) versions of the game were shipped in December 2001, and both achieved immediate critical and commercial success. Global shipments of the Max Payne franchise have exceeded 2.75 million units to date.
Max Payne 2 is expected to ship in calendar 2003.

WOAH ! ! ! Am I reading this right ? No, I am not talking about max payne 2, but the fact that Joe gave a release date for a game that is in development by 3drealms ?
I almost fell over when I read there was an aproximate release date for one of their games.
Anyways MP2 is going to rule. Loved the first and am going to love the second.

My question is, what does "in conjuction with" mean, in terms of MP2 being developed by Rockstar in conjunction with Remedy? Is it a console/pc split like the original Max Payne?

i bought the first one enjoyed it and if remedy is able to improve it for the sequel, i will happily buy that one as well. To me personally Improvement means more than 10 hours of gameplay and a better AI than just wait until i see max and then run for him guns blazing. But to each his own. I don't want to start a discussion here. Other than that best of luck for your next game images/icons/smile.gif .

Heh, re-read the press release images/icons/wink.gif The stock alone is worth about $25 million now. All told, the deal should generate over $40 million when it's all said and done.

Rockstar isn't a PC game developer. If I'm not mistaken, DMA made all the GTA games. Rockstar was either the publisher (As a sub-division of Take2) or the console-porter.
Now, where was I? Ah...a few questions:

Rockstar Canada will take care of the PlayStation 2 port like last time, and Rockstar NY provides us with authentic source material (voice actor performances, photos). We can have a bit higher production values this time around, so players (and especially reviewers) no more have to endure a cast of characters that look like Finnish geeks and their girlfriends. images/icons/smile.gif

Anyway, it should NOT use the Quake 3 Arena engine like Jedi Knight 2, as I STILL don't understand jack about QE Radiant. I don't know how people can call it "easy to mod". Maybe I just need time. And add some better Beretta sounds! I hear the sounds in Hitman were very realistic.

I WAS joking about using the Quake 3 Arena engine. Obiously the DNF bitz0rz was a crack. Anyways, I'd hope to see a slightly modified MaxED. And It'd be nice if they could clear some of the road for modders.

Also, Charleton Heston should run into the scene randomly and scream something either about "Soylent Green being made of people" or "damn dirty apes," then just running off.
Moving is probably the lowest on the priority list, I would imagine.

Skaven: The downside of Max Payne being so good is that you spent all your resources on mainly what you need for the game. Erm... the downside being that for the modders. There's no water/swimming, there's not a good outdoor optimization, and some other stuff. You should correct this now that you have the time, and mr leet Jaakko can make MaxED even better images/icons/smile.gif

Well, I can't comment more specifically yet, but since we focus on the single player experience, we have to let the game and its story dictate what kinds of things we're going to implement.

Remedy is working on the game, and the whole team is focused on making Max2 a game which pushes (again) the gameplay and tech envelope.
However, Rockstar is actively taking part in the production process. As we have access to their resources, we can push the production values even higher with stuff like character casting, photography, voice-overs and so on. They're extremely professional and efficient, so we really enjoy working with them.
3D Realms is still very involved with the game as well, with Scott and George overseeing the project.
Finally we get some solid answers images/icons/smile.gif

If there's not a FPV option in Max Payne 2, someone will make a mod that adds it in...there's one out for Max Payne, the EEP mod I think.

Well I was very pleased when I saw moving in Max Payne. I expected nothing less from Remedy.
Hey, I think Max Payne 2 should feature dual Desert Eagles and ultra-realistic gore! ;-)
Do any of you remember when Skaven told us that Sam Lake(or someone from Remedy) went to LA for business reasons...do you think the game might take place in LA...hmmm...could be.
I wonder what new cool features Remedy and Rockstar can think of to put in this game. I hope they put some of the stuff they weren't able to in the first one.
And don't worry about multiplayer guys...
