Just wondering...is the sky supposed to be ugly or is it just my system? The sky in 3DMark2001 isn't ugly so I'd assume it's just the texture, right? It just brings back haunting memories of Quake 3's sky (I have a GeForce 2).

Probably just your system. It's just a skybox with the city and falling snow in the sky.

Same thing here. The sky looks grainy. The rest of the textures look great, it's just the sky. Is this a fluke with GeForce 2 cards? (In my case a GF2 MX.)
play it in 32bit mode if you can, the skies get real clear if you do...

I am playing it in 32bit color with all the settings maxed out (including 32bit textures). Here's a screenshot:

Is that what it looks like for you guys? And like I said, the skies in 3DMark2001 don't look this bad.

I'm pretty sure that's how almost all games like this are. Just to save memory, they put up a background, but assume no one stares at it and analyzes it. Deus Ex was like this too (I just reinstalled it today, fun stuff).
You can look at the sky images in the database/worldspheres/textures directory. Some have bad color gradients and are grainy which shows up when real close as MP's skyboxes are. Seems like they were converted from 8-bit images or something. Feel free to experiment with other replacement images and post a mod with them or something (preferably looking as close to the original as possible, of course).

Could be a negative side-effect of using texture compression perhaps, I know Q3 suffers from that problem (I'm using a GF2 as well).

turn down your brightness (ingame max payne video brightness)
