I remember when they made "Gilligan's Island in Space" then changed the title to "Star Trek: Voyager."

I remember the TV series was very imaginative and funny (especially the dream sequences). You can tell that the cast had a lot of fun making it.

They actually parodied Gilligan's Island on an episode of Arrested Development as well.
This is a stupid idea, stupid stupid stupid!

Another movie version of a TV show that's never been widely shown in the UK, like The Brady Bunch, so we'll all be completely clueless as to what it's referring to :o
Wasn't there already a recent TV remake of that series, though?

Not that I know of. Several years after the series was off the air, there were two made-for-TV movies featuring the original cast (minus the gal who played Ginger), but they weren't remakes, just a loose continuation of the series.
As for this movie, I agree with the general "It's gonna suck hard" consensus.
Edit: I just realized, you're probably thinking of that odd "reality" show loosely based on Gilligan's Island.

There was this behind the scenes type tv movie/doco done maybe 5 years ago. Covered how the show was made and the stuff that went on, had comments from the real actors throughout it.
The chick that played Ginger was hotter than the real one.

Not that I know of. Several years after the series was off the air, there were two made-for-TV movies featuring the original cast (minus the gal who played Ginger), but they weren't remakes, just a loose continuation of the series.
There were several followups to the original series (which ran only for three seasons from 1964 to 1967). I'm old enough to remember all the followups, I was just two when the original went off the air, though.
The first wasn't a real reunion, but a remake of sorts. There was an animated Gilligan's Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Adventures_of_Gilligan) from 1974-1977 that had all the originals except Ginger & Maryann.
Then came the "reunion movies".
The first (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue_from_Gilligan%27s_Island) was the best, that was the one that they got rescued. At the end of that one, they ended up on the Island again. This one was in 1978. As was pointed out above, the original cast was all here except Ginger.
The second (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Castaways_on_Gilligan%27s_Island) came just a year later, and was "OK". They got rescued again, only this time the Howells turned the place into a resort. I don't remember much about this one, to be honest.
The third of the reunion movies came a few years later in 1981, and was pretty crap. "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Harlem_Globetrotters_on_Gilligan%27s_Island)". Was some sort of thing with the Globetrotters playing against robots on the Island. Bleargh.
There were a few references over the years - there's a list of 'em (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilligan%27s_Island#Reunion_films.2C_clones_and_sp in-offs) on the Wikipedia page. I remember the one on Alf where they got the actors for the Professor, Maryann, Gilligan, & the Skipper to appear with Alf. That was quite silly.
The most recent was a reality show in 2004 & 2005 called "The Real Gilligan's Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Real_Gilligan%27s_Island)". It was crap, but it had a rather sexy trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBZ5UroRb2I&fmt=18). Also found this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2pHVGHRBV4&fmt=18).

I imagine they would have a hard time making it stupider than the flintstones movie, but hollywood has often surprised.

Actually, I didn't think the first one of that wasn't all that bad. Not like it was great, but it wasn't a complete train wreck, either. Never saw the second one.

I remember back in the 80s I had a comic book that a huge ad for some network's new Saturday morning cartoon line-up (those were the days!), and one of their new shows was a cartoon called "Gilligan's Planet". Never watched it. Won't watch this.

To be honest I have not seen either, and will not be seeing this. Unfortunately hollywood knows that if they remake a beloved movie or a tv series then people will come out in droves just to compare them with their memories. It is a sort of built in marketing tool. What they usually do is "fit in everything people liked" - but 10x. Er, except mission impossible, where they killed off the supporting cast so they could make it more james bond like (I have yet to figure out how I can drive a motorcycle sideways). anyway small surprise that many of these movies turn out to be a mess.
Oh dear God, make it stop.
EDIT:
Wait, Michael-goddamn-Cera?
Isn't it bad enough that he's going to make Scott Pilgrim (http://scottpilgrim.com/) look like a chump??

Ah, O.K. In my head I had conflated the second and third movies leading me to believe that there were only two. I remember seeing all three movies at one point or another, probably during their original television runs. And I agree that the first one was the best since it best captured the spirit of the series. The second one was meh, and the third one was "WTF?"

They are looking to get Beyonce for Ginger. I wonder if Cera has it in him to be upbeat enough for Gilligan, he's a real downer in general.

Can we also add in the Karate Kid remake (http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0001552/news#ni0627750) starring Will Smith's son that will take place in Beijing for no readily apparent reason? And I only wish I was making that up. I really liked the first two Karate Kid movies, and will admit to having seen The Next Karate Kid in the theater hoping it would make up for the abomination of the third movie.
As for remaking Gilligan's Island... why not spend money on a new concept instead?

As long as they choose to do a parody on the show like the Brady Bunch movies, then I'm fine with it. If they choose to do anything otherwise, well "It's voodooooooo Gilligan!"
