From what I heard, they are planning to make a trilogy.

Dead Space was pretty cool. I just hope I won't have to spend so much time trying to get used to the camera system again...

I remember reading about this a few weeks ago, along with rumors of toys and a feature film :insomnia:

I'm very glad :) Dead Space was probably the best game this year (maybe tied with LBP, but besides that it's above all the rest).

Don't give me any spoilers, but from one horror fan to another horror fan. Was the game scary at all?

I finished it twice and it was more scary on hard just because you can die a lot easier and the monsters are a lot tougher, but that's IMO. The atmosphere however is undoubtebly disturbing and awesome at the same time.

this game reminds me of Doom III and Resident Evil 4, played it and it's awesome

It wasn't scary like some games are, using monster closets and cheap set pieces. The atmosphere itself is the scariest part - the areas of the ship are so damn creepy that you're expecting to be ripped apart at any second, but you'll find that it's hard to tell when and where you'll be attacked. The paranoia is what does it.

Yeah? Well I consider monsters suddenly jumping out of the vents the same thing as monster closets and it was about as overused as monster closets in DOOM 3. Other than that, the game had the right atmosphere and mood but it wasn't scary. Sometimes disturbing but not scary.

Well, this I am happy for. DS was one of the only "true" survival horror games released in recent times.
It's what RE4 and SH:Homecoming should have been IMO.

It was used because that's how they moved around the ship - through the vents. Yes, sometimes they did pop out, I'll give you that. But they would also go back into the vents and come out from a different one, say, if you went into another room to run away. When you pass a vent in Dead Space, you know something could be in there. It's a key part of how the Necromorphs took the ship over so quickly. When you pass an ordinary looking wall, how are you supposed to know that anything would pop out at you at a certain point? Doom 3's monster closets had no explanation, no point. I would hardly call the vents overused simply because there was an explanation with it.

I enjoyed it despite the story being butchered.

Yeah, they could have done without that cliche at the end of the game. Still, I'm curious to see where it all goes because the rest of the story is pretty deep.

I liked the ending.
It was parts of the actual story I wish they did better. There was lots of wasted potential.

Yeah, but I remember that there were lots of moments where monsters were just jumping out right next to you. But I'm glad they could actually go back to the vents and come out from another one.

Oh
I thought the story was pretty decent, especially when you take all of the backstory provided by the comics into consideration. It sets up a really interesting universe with some big powers at play. I just didn't agree with OMG government projects!!!

That was part of the story that turned me off.

I thought of the movie Event Horizon as soon as I saw this game. This game could have been a lot cooler if the story had been along those lines. I got a chance to play a friends copy but I just couldn't get used to the third-person view.

Event Horizon - What a kick ass movie that was. Scary as a hell too!

As a few people have said, the atmosphere is good but not really all that scary (imo).

I've had quite a few "when in doubt, empty the magazine" moments :o
