You CAN actually shrink them! I just noticed that by shooting 300 - 400 shots from shrinkray at a battlelord you can shrink him and then SQUASH!

WOW AWESOME!!! :o
If you want my honesty, you are not the first one to notice that ;)

Actually, you can shrink him with one shot. Duck and shoot into his legs/crotch area.

Also, if you let them un-shrink, they wont attack you anymore unless you attack them again.

Aim for the balls, it'll shrink them in one shot, as Nimoy said...
It can be tricky with auto aim enabled though...

No. The only reason the Battelord is shrinkable is because it has a special pallete that makes it a miniboss. IIRC, the other bosses don't possess this option.

When the other bosses have that palette they have a HP of 1. There have been modifications to change that....

Ah, but then those needed palettes could be added to make them shrinkable, right? As in some sort of mod i mean.
Its not necessary. Theyre missing shrink code, you'd have to code that.
I think the shrinkable battlelord is a bug, it was probably left in by accident.

I think I know why the shrinker only works on them if you hit them low, although I haven't tested my theory.
What actually does the shrinking is something called SHRINKSPARK, not the shrinker projectile itself. SHRINKSPARK works like an explosion, having a hit radius. That's why there is a setting for SHRINKERBLASTRADIUS in USER.CON. As far as the game is concerned, the location of an actor is its base coordinates, which is the x, y and z coordinates of the middle of the sprite at its feet. So if you hit the upper part of an enemy with the shrinker, the blast is actually farther from the enemy than if you hit it in the crotch or feet. In a normal sized enemy, the difference isn't enough to matter, but a battlelord is so tall that if you shoot him in the uppers with the shrinker, the blast radius does not reach the base of the sprite and he doesn't shrink.

Yeah I can see were it might be a bug, but you could look at the fact that the battlelord shows up throughout the game. Not just at the end of episode one so in some respects he not that much of a boss. At least not compared to the "one eyed freak" (I don't know his name).
Can you expand him too? I'll have to play around with this, I normally just get an RPG and blow the battlelord away.
Edit: Actually you can expand him as well, however I should been able to guess this since odds are the code for shrinking is probably the same for expanding.

I am not able to expand the battlelord. They just die when i try to do that :(

thats probably becuase the microwave gun was not in Duke1.3 and thus the code for the battlelord to expand was not there and could not have been left in by accident.
you can mod it in if you want to though.

Can you imagine playing through levels full of overlords and one eyed freaks??? It'd be impossible. :insomnia:
Actually to me I would find that petty easy as long as I could get the one eyed freaks in a room one-on-one. Because the one eyed freak is easy to dodge for several minutes. My only fear of a map full of overlords and one eyed freaks would be lack of ammo and fighting several at once.
Its a good mod idea really some one should create a map full of one eyed freaks or at least two.
Odd, with a :cough: certain duke3d grp file I can expand the overload but with the original grp file I can't.

Argh i can't take it :tinyted:
The "One Eyed Freak" is Called the "Cycloid Emperor"
I just can't take it if he's called one eyed freak so much, haha :hhg:

Shouldnt it be "Cyclope Emperor"? Ya know, cyclope, one-eyed. :)
In a correct sense of grammar he should, but that's his actual name :o
Cycloid is something about a circular object being placed somewhere certain i think... Dunno if there's any greater meaning really, other than just being his name...
I gotta admit though, Cycloid Emepror kinda rings better on my tongue than Cyclope... When i say that i think of the mythical creature instead of a cool Alien boss... :o

Well, probably it would be easy that way. But what i meant is a level with only overlords and one eye freaks, or "Cycloid Emperors" :) instead of lizard troops or pigcops. That would be pure murder. ;)
OMG that would be awesome, rockets would be every where. Another cool idea would be to give the lizard troops devastators :)
The Cyclord Emperors would kill them selves unless placed in large area as when they are hit by a weapon they would fire - basically they'll get stuck in an endless loop if they fire and hit a wall next to them as it'll force them to fire again....and the explosion of that rocket would force them to fire again and so on...
Here's another funny fact about Battlelord - if you stand in front of them and repetatively tapped strafe left and strafe right (very quickly) it wont actually hit you when it fires due to its "faceplayersmart" command (which makes it aim somewhat ahead of your current possition)
Unfortunately its not easy to do and I haven't managed to stay unharmed for more than 3 seconds by doing this.

Now, that's a bold move:o I can't say I'd wanna try it. At least not during one of my DiG/no save game runs.
