with explorable worlds? Doesn't have to be an RPG, would totally prefer it not to be an MMORPG but I think options are extremely limited outside of that. Just want something to play with a friend. Soooooo many MMORPGs that most of them must suck.
Or some co-op game with explorable environments (3D).

Could always grab an Ultima Online client and jump into a free shard. It gets boring after a bit but it is really relaxing to just explore (assuming you don't get raped by another player).
Otherwise I think Two Worlds has co-op. Not sure how good it is.

Who knows, it might be for you...

Those are ugly as sin though. Interesting 3D worlds is what I'm after. Freeware would be nice too - as I said, there's lots but I dunno what sucks.

What about free FPSes with team based playmodes?

If there's an environment worth exploring :P
Just imagine Morrowind co-op... *drool*

So like I said, go for two worlds. It's on steam for $20 and I'm almost positive it has MP modes that let you explore. It's kind of like Oblivion.

Unless Steam's releases have been pre-patched, you're looking at a patch weighing in at over a gig for Two Worlds...still though, I've always been curious about the game. I know I can get it new on EBay for no more than 10 bucks...maybe I will someday.

Are you sure? I've seen the game and it's not exactly a looker. My brother ran it maxed out on my old 6800GT if I remember correctly. Is there a demo to try it?
Phait

Just looking at it I can give you a resounding "no' http://www.mobygames.com/game/two-worlds/screenshots

That's on full detail. No idea how it would run on low. Given your specs phait you are pretty limited in terms of 3D RPGs. So I have no idea.

Hmm there IS a demo (http://browse.files.filefront.com/Two+Worlds+Official+Demos/;2052308;/browsefiles.html)... /downloads

Actually -
Contrary to popular belief, Vivendi Universal Games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vivendi_Universal_Games) has stated that the game is not free to be redistributed by others.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betrayal_at_Krondor#cite_note-vivendi-4)
Actually it's not. It's a misconception, sierra only released it for a short PR stunt. Now it's 'abandoned' and we all know the legal status of that term.

Well tried the Two Worlds demo, it runs at like 15 FPS on low at 1024 :p
Doesn't seem too bad, but doesn't feel that interesting either (SP portion). But the combat is how The Witcher should've been - straightforward hits, etc.

You might want to try Perfect World. Visually it's pretty awesome and it's free to play.

I haven't played it yet so I don't know it it's really any good.

Hmmm http://www.somethingawful.com/d/mmo-roulette/buttbongo.php
"Before I could actually play this stupid game I had to find the client. Normally you can just go to the game's "downloads" page and be on your way. However, the good folks at Perfect World decided to make that nearly impossible. Sure, a downloads page exists but none of the direct links work. I take that back; one did work but the file was corrupt when it finished downloading. The only way you can get this game is through a torrent and when Comcast has your torrents capped to a degree of ridiculousness, it tends to take a while."
Heh :D

DOH. Didn't know THAT. Can someone delete the links please? Didn't want to post abandonware. I know it's against the rules.

Your point being? That doesn't make it legal and Joe has already stated many times that abandonware is against the rules. Simon - just edit your post, I edited mine to remove the link too.

Would likely run without problem, and artistically it looks good, but bit cartoony for my tastes. Looking for something similar to Morrowind.

Why not search for Morrowind mods? I'm sure one probably exists.

Try Sword of the New World. I gave up after a few hours out of male pride but if you're bored and depressed enough you just might like it.

Well I tried Perfect World it was ok, didn't get too far but it slowed down in towns. Maybe just one facet of MMOs.
I'm currently downloading Archlord which is now free (at least this episode series) by Codemasters:

Looking at coop *RPGs* not coop FPS. Serious Sam games are terribly awkward and inconsistent/over-the-top universes that put me off, more than draw me in.
