It seems when i installed mp that some of the directx dll's were not final retail versions but beta retail versions and not i get pop windows saying to update direct x from a beta version. I was wondering if anyone else is getting this as i am currently working with ms on fixing it but i haven't told them it was from installing mp yet. If anyone knows about later version of directx let me know.

Why don't you just download DirectX v8 from Microsoft and install that?

i have tried reinstalling dx8.0 and dx8.1 and it still doesnt overwrite the mfc42.dll file which in mp is a beta retail not final retail.

im not sure but if you are using Windows ME you can't replace nor delete any DLLs that are in your system directory. I have no idea how to remove this protection.

Maybe you could find newer DirectX v8.1 interim 3 for Win9x/Me (build 682) from somewhere (http://www.maxreboot.com/leak/DirectX%208.1/DX81eng9x_MaxReboot.zip)...

I don't know if this will work on ME but it works
on NT if you need to replace a DLL that is in use by the system.

If you map your own drive over the network.
As you most likey are Administrator on your PC
Map \\NNN\c$ to any letter, let's say F:
(NNN = computer name or IP address)

Go thru F: and locate the file.
Rename it and put in the new one,
unmap the drive and reboot.

Does system file checker not let you replace the file?
