I got the flashing task bar and got rid of it

I have ZoneAlarm 2.6 installed and when it is running it has an icon in the taskbar. I get a lot of alerts(my isp is sending some stuff to my computer) and this makes the icon flash.

Well guess what, when the icon flashes, the taskbar shows up in max payne.

My guess is that people that have the flashing task bar problem have :

1. an icon that changes overtime
2. an icon with a weird refresh function.

I have only seen this behavior with Max Payne. I tried it with pretty much all my other games some them that uses Directx8 natively.

I know there isn`t a lot of ways to go fullscreen with Directx, but maybe it is due to the window style you use......

Well it is not a big problem anyway, but as a programmer I always find it fun to find the cause of weird bug like that. So if ever someone fixes it, would be interesting to know what exactly was causing the problem.

Supposedly none of the beta testers saw this. I don't see how this could've been missed, but stuff happens. images/icons/shocked.gif

Fortunately for me, the clock is the only thing that changes, and it happens so briefly that I only see the clock, not the whole taskbar.

From what I've read, this problem isn't serious enough to warrant a patch, but if some of the more serious problems that other ppl are having can be reproduced and fixed, hopefully they can include a fix for the notification area / taskbar problem with that patch. images/icons/smile.gif

ive noticed the clock shows up 2 very briefly tho

Just minimize the task-bar before starting the game. When you're through just re-size it to whatever you originally had it.

I just turn on the Auto-Hide and turned off the Always on Top options when I'm about to play a game, then return them to normal afterwards.
