I can run EDuke32 with HRP in the highest resolution possible with my current graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce 8500 GT), but when I try using mapster32 with the exact same graphic options and HRP, it's suddenly extremely slow! Why could this be?

I've tried changing in the mapster32.cfg file but without any success..
Please help!

As far as i know, mapster32 doesnt load the textures and other resources before loading the map, thus is loads them up only when it needs them, like if you enter a room in 3D mode with different texture to the last ones, it has to load them at that time, wheras EDuke32 loads them before you enter the level.
It probably takes a while when you press V as well i would have thought.
I use the 8-Bit mode for main map design and only switch to 32-Bits for final tweaking (e.g, making sure models are correctly placed etc...)

Whats your computer processor speed, RAM and available HD space?

Cuz low HD, low ram and slow comp can be a cause of that lag.

Higher resolution slower it is.
when use 32b

I think that's right.

My computer is a P4 3ghz, 4gb ram and 80gb internal hd, 750gb external hd totally
The harddrives are pretty full at the moment so maybe thats a reason for this.

The selection of textures is also extremely slow, like using an oold graphics card.

I have previously worked with maps on a computer with 3,6ghz, 1gb ram, geforce 6800, and then I could use mapster32 with HRP in the highest resolution without any problems, it went just as fast as when playing the game..

What he said. The program does not preload anything (because that would be one hell of a loading time)

I wonder if TerminX can integrate eDuke32's texcache with Mapster.

Then why is it much much slower on my computer when it worked absolutely flawless on a computer with almost exact same specs?
