You're talking about the game box? No, the way it is now is the way all game boxes are going. However, the US doesn't "get it", we're saddled with these silly "small boxes", when the way to go is the way the Europe is doing - DVD cases.

A very good idea, no big waste of paper to trash. Although I've never seen multi-disc DVD cases for 2+ disc games. Anyone know if they have those?

They have multi disc cases that are the same size as a single DVD case. Go look at the DVD for "Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace". That's the perfect way of doing it, IMHO.

Yeah, that was totally creepy. I walk into EB
the day after Dungeon Siege was released
and BAM! all the PC games were in these
strange little boxes.

Personally, I think the game is more important than what it came in. images/icons/smile.gif

THat's right
Joe, has Take 2 decided what kind of box dnf will be in? Doesn't something like the box set the standard of the game in dukes case?
I mean, you're trying to sell this bigger than life character with a storyline to boot, and we're supposed to buy that in a teeny tiny package that's the same size as "tomb raider" ick.... I say revolt! it's duke's image

The small boxes are just another way for a company to save money on packing and get maximum returns for their games. It's pretty stupid, too, considering it's not much more for a DVD case, from what I understand.
They can't start releasing games in DVD cases! I was mad enough when they started putting games in the mini-boxes. images/icons/mad.gif If they don't put games in boxes, how will I collect enough boxes to wallpaper a room with?

It's pretty stupid, too, considering it's not much more for a DVD case, from what I understand. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Believe it or not, but it's not actually a question of money, but a question of shelf space. Both in stores, and in homes.
It's game stores that want maximum efficiency, and if every title they sell comes in a foot-by-foot package, they need huge premises or they can't display all the titles showing the front cover.
Before the age of large cardboard boxes most games were sold in small cassette cases (in the C=64 / Amstrad / ZX84 era). Huge game packages were rare. Their original purpose was not to house a large manual or extra goodies, but to simply draw the attention of the shopper. Over time, this tactic became so common that eventually every game simply had to be in a large package to even become noticed. A surprisingly large part of consumers don't base their game purchase on reviews or demos, but simply pop in the store and see what's there (which also explains why some companies still resort to faked screenshots).
