View Full Version : I've downloaded the Max Payne demo three times

And each time I've received the exact same error. "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file verify its integrity and try again."

I'm really quite displeased at this point because I was seriously considering buying Max Payne and I wanted to verify that my system could handle it.

So the longer the demo doesn't work the longer I lack Max.

I'm running Win2k professional and I can't think of anything else in my system that’s causing problems with the installer.

I don't think it's your system, the demo itself is corrupted. Download it from a different site.

See, that’s exactly what I thought the first time.

But When I downloaded it again (This time from fileplanet) and got the exact same error, I got suspicious.

And when I downloaded it JUST NOW, from Adrenaline Vault and got THE EXACT SAME ERROR, I became convinced it wasn't the fault of the installer.

Or at least not directly you understand.

(Sorry for the shouting)

What type of modem are you using? What speed are you downloading it at? Are you using any third party download managers? How much spare room do you have on your hard drive? I'd check this one first.

I've not seen anyone report this error before. If the files were truly bad, no one would be able to install it, and we'd be overrun with problems like this.

Given that you downloaded it from multiple locations, I have to assume it's an issue with your local system. The guy above me posted some good questions.

If you are using a program that downloads from multiple sites at once (getright, download accelerator) then that could be the problem. I've had a few issues with them.

It sounds very much like a resuming issue with a download manager - don't resume from different sites.

That's kinda just what I said. Download managers that work with multiple sites tell the sites they are "resuming" from about 8 different places, and the servers send the file from 8 parts on.

Thought I was the only one having problems with Demo. I downloaded it 5 times from different sites, wouldn't unpack due to corruption! I don't use downloaded managers, & have cable modem. Asked my soninlaw to download , he has encounted the same problem.
I did manage to get it installed, but keeps crashing, & states certain jpeg files missing.
like a lot of people I was waiting for demo to see if it would run on my system, which it does, & looks terffic but now I have reservations about buying it.
