Part 1 Chapter 2 locks up or reboots my computer

as soon as payne is done talking at the begining of part 1 chapter 2 the screan fades and either stays black and locks up or my comp re boots. if any one else is having this same problem or knows a solution please post a reply.

Yes I get the same. its when im playing though. I either get freezing and the sound going over and over like a broken record, or restarts or a blue screen.

here is the message i sent to the remedy man:

My Max Payne game keeps Crashing mid way through the game. I can only get up to a bit of Part one chapter 1: ROSCOE. I can get all the way to the second platform where there is guy patroling with a pump action shot gun. I go into bullet time then perfrom a Bulletdodge/shootdodge. Half way through i kill the guy with two head shots the when im just landing it locks up and a blue screen pops up.

It has Windows written at the top, centered with grey highligting.

I press any key and the PC restarts.

I installed it before and the same thing happened only i could only get to the second lot of bad guys. so i uninstalled it. It was my friends game and he suggested formatting the hard disk to get the problem off. I did it because recently the same blue screene with an error in VXD came up and the net wudn't work. I formatted it, got the game a week later and i can only get to where i said before.

I have an 800mhz PC with 128 MB ram

all settings on high.
bilinear filtering
Antializing off
fogging and sounds enabled.
task switching disabled.
Buffers at trippple speed

that is what happens. it does it on the tutorial as well as soon as i try to killl the second bad guy and on kemicals matrix level when i trigger the guards to come running in. sometimes it does it when im standing still.

You guys have via chipsets - have you downloaded and tried the most recent via drivers?

Have you tried it with the -skipstartup command line parameter?

yes i have the newest drivers for my chipset witch i needed in order to play the game at all and i also have the skipstartup line in the shortcut because i also needed that in order to get past the intro movie

if you have any other suggestions though please let me know. (i want to hurry up and get this game running so i can finish it and then work on getting my conmp back to normal all the changes i have made to get this game to run at all have made it so that everquest will not run properly for some reason)

What is different about a via chipset and where can i get new drivers for it??

I went to the via downloads page but it was down atm so i then went to ask.com and did a search under via chipset and found a link to a sight with all there driver dl's there i then had to look in the manual for my mobo. to find the what exact via chipset i had and dl'd it
