Sound problem

Hi,
I can play Max Payne but only with the sound acceletaton lowered,if not the game crashes.
In this case , the sounds are not very good.What can I do to resolve this problem.I have tried to update my sound card drivers(AZTECH PCI 288-Q3D II),but the only version I have found is 1.0.
I have:
OS Win 98 SE
P III 650 Mhz
128 RAM
3D Prophet SE GeForce 256 (12.41)
DirectX 8
