Phait, I noticed you play lots of plane simulations. How advanced is your knowledge about piloting an aircraft? Can you understand the functions of all switches and handles and gauges in the cockpit panel of this F-86, for example?

I mean, in real world, if you sat in the cockpit of an aircraft, would you know how to take off or is that totally different from a simulation?

I can't say 100% I'd be able to because when it comes to real world abilities that's quite different - you'd have to deal with forces of gravity and things you just don't feel in a sim. But, I do understand the function of many things in a cockpit, especially when it comes to an F-16 (thanks to how deep Falcon 4 is). So I'd say if I were to be quizzed in general to intermediate knowledge, I'd fare much better than average person. But there's quite a lot I need to learn when it comes to civil aviation too. Even as much as I know, and even as confident as I may be with certain models and my familiarity of them, I still think it'd be downright arrogant to say "oh yeah I could fly that!" :p

I might shoot for a recreational pilot's license someday.

Being that you do like flight and race sims, you should check out the TrackIR.

I just got mine today and it adds quite a bit of depth to playing GTR Evolution. Being able to look at the apex going into a turn is extremely helpful and it is much easier to check your surroundings. From what I have seen of it used on flight sims it looks like it could be very helpful in looking all around. It amazes me that more PC games don't take advantage of this technology. Well worth the 130 bones I paid for it.

Unfortunately, only one with as vast an intellect as an Al Quaeda terrorist is capable of such a feat.

Printed most of the Falcon 4 Allied Force manual long time ago, that's reading material to me :p

I see. :) Taking off is something, but flying a plane is probably impossible without formal education and experience. I don't know whether that's true or not, but I heard the most difficult part is landing an aircraft and that's why so many planes crash while they land. Anyway, what's important is this:

So I'd say if I were to be quizzed in general to intermediate knowledge, I'd fare much better than average person.

Nope. They can only crash their planes into giant buildings. That's hardly a feat. I'm talking about taking off, flying and then crashing. You can't qualify without doing all these in a row.
