Just installed Max Payne and tried to play it. It won't let me continue to a real level unless I go through the Fugitive level. I play it but the screen is so dark that I can't see what I am doing. I don't mean the brightness. But all I see is dark black and a few white areas so I can't tell where I am or what i am doing. Is this a problem with my video card or is the game supposed to be that way?

I'm not sure what could be causing your problem but I thought I'd let you know the game is not supposed to be dark.

Mine's the same way. It's almost like looking at a black and white negative. Anyone else have this problem and actually fix it?
Thanks

OK. My system specs areas follows:
Asus CUSL2 Pentium III MB
INTEL 82815 Graphics Controller onboard(4megs)
256MB RAM
Plextor 12/10/32 CDRW
Pioneer 16X 115 DVD ROM
It may be my video thats the problem but Unreal Tournament works just fine. Can't explain why Max Payne looks like a negative as was described by a previous post. By the way, Max Payne the character looks just fine it's the background that looks black and white but mostly black to the point of not being able to tell where or what I need to see. Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Well, you've only got a 4 MB video card apparently. That's probably the problem. The box says it requires a 16 MB card, but I know of people who have scraped by with 8 MB. If I were you, I would spend $120 or so and get a 32 MB video card, or spend more and get a 64 MB. Do some research before you buy, so you dont' end up regretting what you get. The Radeons are nice, and so are the Geforce2s. Just stay away from the GeForce2 MX400.
