I found a cool app called Bumptop (http://bumptop.com/) that makes your desktop 3D, it uses OpenGL and PhysX but works with any GPU.

It as a Free and a Pro version.

There is also Real Desktop (http://www.real-desktop.de/index.php?lang=Language/English.txt) it seams to be the same as Bumptop but afaik don't use physX.

IMO it is really not a must have app but is a novel idea and is fun.

Hmm, looks interesting, I'll check it out. I enjoy fancy yet ultimately pointless desktop apps.

@ the bolded word (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QyyC4LRoYI) since Compiz/Beryl has been around for a while.

Still, it is neat that they are finally getting something for Windows that is similar. I may try this out on my home computer. I can't even get Compiz to work on this junky old laptop.

edit: watched some of the video (it is glitchy) and that is unique. I can't see if it is Vista only though.

That is nothing like compiz ( but i think compiz is better) i also use ubuntu on my laptop, and is novel because is a unique desktop usage idea. And it works on Vista, W7 and XP.

I watched the video and it looked really different...the FAQ said it was made for touch screens etc. I guess that is cool and all but I don't see that as my future.

I just got the feeling from the stuff I saw that it was Vista and up stuff. Maybe that is a bad sign for Vista and Windows 7

I don't see that as my future.

One of my co-workers installed Real Desktop at work, trying to show it off. Comments around the office were, "That looks ugly." and "How's that any different to how it was before, except that it's tilted?"

So, no. Not quite the future.
