I haven't seen the 2008 version, but between
the first two, I think that I'd have to say the
1989 version. I guess that it must be that I like
movies that were done in the 80's.
Some years ago, I scored a copy of the
1989 version at Wal-Mart, in the metal
cage bin. I wish that it would get
another re-release.
Haven't seen the 1989 version. The last one was pretty amazing.

2004 version.
But you didn't vote for it!
While the 2004 version isn't all that bad, the '89 version was just so much more action-packed...

1989, 2004, then 2008.

Havent seen the latest.
The 89 version was far superior to the 04 version.
I was actually hoping dolph would come back,i think he nailed the role perfectly.
Imo it was his best film.
The rest of the cast was good too.

1989 version was ridiculously bad. 2004 version was ok, lacked action. 2008 version was so dumb but I loved all of the references to Garth Ennis's work.

I have only seen one, the only one i need to see; the one with Dolph.
Not sure which one it is, but I am pretty sure it's 1998, as it was definitely over a decade ago that i first saw it. :o

I'd say they are in the correct order.
The 1989 and 2004 films I love about equally. :) But the newest version... I personally think it sucked pretty hard.

I voted for the Dolph Lundgren one, but I really haven't decided between it and the Ray Stevenson Punisher as my favorite yet. Both have their good points, unlike the ghastly Thomas Jane version, which was just unredeemable. One interesting point, though all the ninjas and japanese taking over from the first film seems trapped in the 80's to some extent, the badass psycho yakuza chick who stomps all over the local mafia seems much more like a villain from the Garth Ennis run of the comic than the more outlandish Jigsaw we got in the new movie.

2004 had a better emotional punch and kic. Tom Jane was fine.
However, Ray Stevenson pulled off Frank Castle so well.
The Dolph Lundgren is cheesy fun.

The only thing bad about the 2004 version was the cheesy sendoff on the bridge. He punished the **** out of Travolta. Had one of the best two-man brawls since They Live.
Not voting until I see the 2008 version.
I guess when the only thing I remember about the Dolph version was the unnecessary ass-crack shot, it can't have been that special.

The only redeeming factor the 1989 had was the really hot blonde but deaf chick. Unfortunately the only picture I found is the one where Dolph has his arms around her neck.

1989 was cheesy, the 2004 one was boring as hell, 2008 was a 'leave your brain at the snack bar' type of movie.
Nome of them are good.
Haven't seen the one with Dolph, but I have to say that the 2004 is far superior to the 2008 one.
For an action movie, War Zone has some of the most boring action scenes I've ever seen, it's like they got a 5 year old to choreograph it, it all looks so amateurish and lame.
The dialog is retarded, the gore is stupid since it's obvious that it's CGI, instead of classic squibs like in Die Hard or something, it's like they didn't even try.

I haven't seen the 2008 version yet but the two others are a tie for me. Both had horrible parts and very good ones. I wish I could take the 2004 version and replace Tom Jane with Lundgren, exchange the action scenes as well and add the interrogations of the 2004 Punisher game. That was to me the best version yet. I love that game.
Saw War Zone last night.
It's the best of the three, no competition. It's what the Punisher is all about in his full brutality.

Fully agree.. I've seen them all and War Zone nailed it perfectly. Great film that I felt nailed the character perfectly. It's ultra-violent but still manages to impart the internal agony and sense of loss that Frank Castle experiences due to the death of his family. Ray Stevenson IS Frank Castle.

Punisher: War Zone feels like the quintessential comic book movie to me.
Also, the director is hot.

I'm with him. I haven't seen the 89 one but I hated War Zone. The 04 one was the best for me.

War Zone is.... shit. An utter pile of complete shit. Then only good thing about it was Stevenson.
He's a good actor, and did his best with what he had. And he did a fantastic job getting emotion across when at his families grave and in some other scenes.
But the action scenes... where just bad. CGI blood effects (and in a lot of scenes... they looked horrible), bad choreography... it tried so hard to be action packed that they forgot to make the action good.
Then you throw in a horribly acted main villain. Before he was Jigsaw he was okay, not great... but passable. After he became Jigsaw... it's like they were trying way to hard with him. Then add in the shitastic accent... ugh.
And his brother was just as bad... giggling constantly though the film... we get it... he's insane... dial it back some. Insanity is far more frightening when it's subtle.
This goes right along side Elektra (and a few others) as one of the worst Marvel Comic book movies ever made.
