As one of the many who have had problems with the game i will supply what seemed to work for me.
I have all the latest drivers etc for my cards but what the problem was could be pointed right at direct x.
Direct x side
Go into the direct x diagnostic and make sure the sound in the direct sound has the acceleration to the lowest setting. Then also make sure it is using your sound card and what mine was doing and trying to emulate it.
Game settings
In another post someone said run the game in a lower setting than your desktop settings. Now i did this in conjunction with running the game at its lowest setting and lo and behold it works. The sound might not be the best but its running and is extremely playable.
Now this may not work for all of you but it has for me i ran max payne the other night for 90 minutes without a single crash, lockup or me going sod it. Well maybe sod it werent my exact words but theres been too much swearing lately here images/icons/wink.gif
