I have AMD 650Mhz, 128Mb RAM, Voodoo 3500TV, WIN ME&98. When i start MP, right after the intro video I get the line:"There is insufficient video memory to start Max Payne..." All my options in MP are set to low. Please, somebody help!

Try selecting "double buffering" from the game startup "Options" dialog.

We ran Max Payne here successfully on a Voodoo3500TV on Win98 with the WHQL 1.04.02 drivers which can be found from:
www.windrivers.com (http://www.windrivers.com/script/driverd.asp?loc=http://www.windrivers.com/company/3dfx/drivers/3tv/US-1.04.02.exe)

Hey Sami, I own a Voodoo 3 3k AGP and i get the same message after the intro plays. I've tried everything for over a month to get this thing running, went far back into this message board
and "can't get it up" and running. I have a shuttle MOBO with a Duron 750, DX8a, latest drivers for VooDoo (1.07), sound, 256MB Ram.
Other games run perfect and fast. It seems to me that systems w/ VooDoo/AMD CPU combos don't seem to like this game (just by readying all the posts). I hope i didn't WASTE $50(us)+tax on this
game. I know these Voodoo cards are older and the company is now gone, but i'm sure there are a lot
of gamers like us out there having problems.
Any advice to this problem would be greatly appreiciated.

Hey OneTrip,
I have a ASUS P3B-F + Pentium III 450Mhz + Voodoo3500TV. I dont think that problem is AMD processor. Maybe can be the newest drivers 1.07. But i dont like the ideia to downgrade to version 1.04.02, just SamiV suggested, because i have a lot of games working now.

Solution for you:

Change you windows desktop resolution to 16bit at 800x600.

Problem should now be fixed.

I ran Max Payne just fine on my Voodoo3 3000, and with a cpu 200Mhz slower than yours. You probably just have your settings too high for what the video card can handle.

Just checking, did you try to put on "Double Buffering" instead of the default "Triple buffering"?

3dfx cards are kind of problematic due to the lack of any new official driver support. :-P

I am running a 1 gig AMD W/a voodoo5 5500 and I had the same problem. My BIOS has a setup option to change the Graphics Aperture Size. I set it from 64MB to 256MB.Now MP runs like dream.
