How fast should Max Payne roughly be

i have an athlon 1.2gig, 256mb ram, geforce 2mx card. I when I run max payne 1024x768 res, high detail 16bit, i get roughly 70-75fps per sec, but when there is a lot of bodies, blood on screen, it slows down to 40fps, is this normal.

i expected an athlon and geforce 2 to run this without breaking a sweat.

what is your fps speed.

I have the same system as you and i get 35-40fps and it can easily drop to 10fps

GeForce MX's aren't nearly as good as a GeForce 2. You should likely be playing in 800x600. In any case if you are getting 40+ FPS you are more than fine. If you are below, adjust your detail settings.

Celeron 560 mhz
Hercules 4500 AGP 64MB
160mb Ram

About 15 to 18 fps on 1024 x 768 x 32 all on low detail.

My Geforce classic is faster then your MX, but I get a little less then that. I wouldn't complain. images/icons/smile.gif
