Or are they cheap third party milk-fests? If I were to play one, which one should I choose?

I found Time To Kill quite enjoyable. (PS1)
I have not played Land Of The Babes though.
I got a N64 and a PS1 just to play the console Duke games but I have yet to receive the latter, however, I did played Duke Nukem Advance which I didn't find very enjoyable.

I'd like to see someone make another 3rd person Duke,
and/or another one with the graphics like Manhattan Project
had.

Definitely Duke Nukem Zero Hour. It's the one with more action and where Duke acts exactly like you'd expect him to.

I like Duke Nukem: Zero Hour on the N64 (one of my first and favorite games) but be prepared for EXCESSIVE difficulty.

I have found any game with Duke in it to be enjoyable on some level. It really is the character I believe, there just isn't many characters in games with the Duke attitude.

I have to recommend Zero Hour as well. I find the Duke character slightly more developed and more fun in Zero Hour then in Duke 3D. It's also a solid 3rd person game on it's own, maybe even the best on the N64. Also Duke in the wild west killing Pigcop sherifs is just plain silly fun.

Duke Time to Kill and Zero Hour are kinda the same concept but with radically different results and takes on things.
Time to Kill has a lot of similarities to Tomb Raider with Duke's attitude over the top and action over exploration, but its definately inspired by TR. You can see it in Duke's design, in the inventory, and in many of the moves you can perform. Between the two, TTK felt a lot more "Adult." Like a direct sequel to Duke3D.
Zero Hour acts more like a straight first person shooter. (Lots of fun to be had in the multiplayer portion of the game too) The only major downside to BOTH of these games is you cannot save mid level. If you die, you start at the begining. (With Time to Kill you have X number of lives and then its game over.)
To me, Zero Hour is damn near perfect. It has everything you could want in a Duke game. New one liners, lots of action, fun and varied enemies, even a few errie moments in the Post Apocolyptic and 19th century England times. If you've got a couple controllers and some friends, the duke match is flat out awesome, especially if you kick a lot of ass in the single player portion, because you unlock all kinds of characters with slight varitions on health and speed. The Single Player is tough as a MFer but its also a very rewarding experience. It's been a long time since i've had an experience in a game like I had with Zero Hour. Memories.

Part of that depends on what you are looking for...
Some games are ports of Duke 3D with somewhat minor changes mostly for adaptation to a given platforms capabilities. Some are completely new games starring Duke Nukem. I have Duke Nukem on all consoles and handhelds from TigerGame.com to Duke64 to cell phone... I like them all at some levels. I like to see the various ports just to see the differences.
Duke Nukem Zero Hour is a new game. For the PS1 I really enjoyed Duke Nukem Time to Kill and Planet of the Babes in that order.
Seems that most here are in agreement, but there are not that many console games that weren't ports of the original Duke Nukem 3D.

Good for what? ;)
Ok... have you ever played the TigerGame.Com version? Well that one is pretty "bad".
And not a console, but the handheld Tiger Grip Game of Duke Nukem was pretty poor... Just can't get into those two. :)

I enjoyed Duke64, Its just Duke3D (not even Atomic) with some interesting changes and additions. Censored but worth playing IMO. ;)
Couldnt get into Total Meltdown (PS1), the controls suck for the most part and the framerate generally is too low to be playable. :( I also have Time To Kill, but I didnt play enough to say if its good or bad.
Lastly, I have the GBC Duke game, which is sort of like Duke2. Pretty fun and silly :p

Zero Hour and Time To Kill would probably be best. TTK is more mature however. It also has much more blood.

Duke Nukem Time to Kill PSX and Duke Nukem Land of the Babes, they are both good. He talks more in LOTB. I really like TTK it's got a good comedy and action. It's like Tomb Raider.
You can even find some references to some cool movies. One problem I got maybe something wrong with my PS2. Is if I play Duke Nukem TTK with the PS2 pad with the PS2 and use analogue mode. Not digital pad. He keeps turning in circles. Anyone else get that.
Disc might be scratched.
no problems with Land of the babes on PS2 pad though. :)

Never happens to me. You may be having problems. Just hit the controller hard on your hand. If it dosent work, use the floor. Or plug it in and out.

Remove the controller and plug it back in again? I've had a "running around in circles" problem before and that seemed to solve it but it may be completely different.

It also has much more blood.
Actually... No. Zero Hour has far more graphic detail when it comes to headshots, torso shots (you can blow a gorey hole through your enemies) and in general the blood is a lot more thick and prevalant.

Zero Hour is good. Time to Kill is decent, as are the Game Boy games. The rest are pretty bad IMO, sadly.

I still don't understand why they did that. I guess it's because Nintendo had more family friendly games at the time?

Its a lot more than just that. The porn store in the second level becomes a gun store. The strip club and strippers is taken out. The cinema in the first level no longer shows a stripper. The posters in the cinema are changed. Dukes first like in the first level is censored etc.
The whole game got toned down a bit for the N64.
Back to the original question, the console games were pretty good. Especially Time To Kill, Land Of The Babes was alright also. It would be nice if there was another 3rd person Duke game on the consoles.

You're describing Duke Nukem 64 not Duke Nukem Zero Hour. They're two different games for the N64. Commando Nukem was talking about Zero Hour.

Beleive those are the only two decent ones that are worth anyone's time now. The rest are products of milking the Duke nukem name and hoping it does good.
To be honest I didn't like Land Of The Babes and for a reason: 3D Realms had nothing to do with it. As for the Zero Hour. I like that trick which allows to play single player with FPS view.
All console ports are really good (even the Genesis one - considering the platform and developer's budget). I found Total Meltdown very enjoyable and the framerate was quite stable IMO (except of the Spin Cycle level). I haven't touched GBA version yet, but I tried the cell phone version. The levels were too short and too simple. But I liked those 'Redneck Rampage like' mansion/graveyard textures and tree sprites - it was a nice addition to the Duke's typical theme...

TBH, I really enjoyed the original DN3D on N64 - It just felt like a new experience, although familiar. Playing on the TV with those awesome controllers...
