System Specs:
Asus A7M266 motherboard
Athlon 1,4 Ghz (not overclocked)
512 MB DDR Ram
Asus AGP-V7700 GeForce 2 GTS – 32MB
Windows 2000 Prof UK SP2

I had a bunch of problems running MP, and thankfully to this forum, i almost fixed al of them.

For instance, the AGP Texture Acceleration was grayed out in my case (dxdiag.exe -> display) I had no idea how to fix it. Turned out, i needed the AGP drivers from http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/bin/ for my AMD 760 chipset. Maybe a tip for fellow Athlon users. After applying the AMD driver pack, Version 1.20, i was able to test the AGP Texture Acceleration succesfully (it was enabled by default)When starting up MP, there were no “An error has ocured in the graphics engine" errors anymore.

Only thing left now is the mouselag. Playing 1024*768*32 is terrible (all options high) but when i switch back to 800*600*32 it is pretty ok, with all the optons high. Sorry, i am not going to tune down more settings for better performance, i think my hardware should be ok. Any ideas what can cause this mouselag? I use the 21.81 nVidia drivers. I also removed the mouse from the usb port, and attached it to the ps2 port, but that made no difference.

One other thing i notced, is that as soon when you quit playing MP, and you check you Taskmanager, i noticed that the CPU usage history is going up and down constantly. If i played Quake3, the line is at 100% all the time. How come? I have the idea that you can feel this in the game, sometimes when you move around, the game hangs for a moment, and than continues. Weird.

Maybe it's the same sort of problem Half-Life had when you played it in Direct3D. Half-Life had a console fix though. I don't know what it would be for Max Payne. If I were you, I would email Talonsoft or something.

I have the exact same problem, but only in 32-bit colour mode.

Athlon 1.2ghz
256 megs sdram
Asus 7700 32meg ddr

It's the only thing stopping me from really enjoying this game, because 16-bit colour looks like @$$.

This might sound strange, but I fixed it by maxing everything out. I wanted to watch Max crawl, so I toggled everything to max. Surprisingly, it runs perfectly, as opposed to chugging along at 640x480x16. Go figure.
