View Full Version : What's the reason you chose your username?

DarkShadows
06-01-2009, 07:39 PM
Well, I chose DarkShadows because I thought I'd use a somewhat dark-themed username, although it doesn't have to do with the TV series which some of you may have not seen, including me. http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/images/smilies/tongue.gif

x (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059978) x (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101075)

In case this gets mixed up with Joe's avatar threads, I've searched the boards and just found a rant thread, whatever that was..

My first nick was "sangluss".. That account is still on here somewhere but unused, you can find some of my ancient posts with it :) It was just sunglass with the vowels switched around.

Over time the "luss" part was dropped and replaced with nothing, "man", "dude", "mahn" and so on.

Mine is a reference to The Terminator & Duke Nukem

I simply put an excelamtion point in my real first name, because just using my real name as such seemed a bit dull and boring... The exclamation point means lot to me, but not all places allow signs in usernames, my aliases would be MickiMatsu and MinceF.Supply...
When i first joined here my name was tueresfeo, it's spanish, and i think it roughly means "youareugly" thought it was annoying to carry around an insult in my name though, so i came up with my own name having an exclamation point attached...

I don't mind it much that people forget using it when talknig to me, but i do mind if they spell my name incorrectly, it's NOT Micky or Mickey...

fast-1
06-02-2009, 03:10 PM
I used to buy this magazine called Hip Hop Connection. So I knew KRS ONE had his name with a one on the end, so I just thought of something like Fast then thought of adding a 1 on the end Fast-1. Then I wrote some rhymes on paper still got them. It has nothing to do with the saying pull a fast one. But just put fast and one together.

I was very young when I signed up here, and I wasn't clever enough to come up with an actual nickname. So, I just typed my name into the username box.

I've since adopted an online nick, but I like to keep the 3DR persona separate. ;)

Dear god, I think I was 16 or 17 when I chose my username for this forum. All the other good names I could think of were taken, so I chose something that I was sure wasn't taken.

Sure enough, no one else was stupid enough to use the name "hellchicken". :p

Also, I think the idea of a chicken from hell greatly amused me at the time.

Still does. :D

Mariamus
06-07-2009, 05:34 AM
I used to role play a character called Maria back on the old Transformers Chat website. One day things developed and I was suddenly called Mariamus Prime. I used that for a few years, and then I dropped Prime and just called myself Mariamus. Those were the days. back before everyone decided to call themselves Somethingmus Prime.

Damien_Azreal....

I don't know. Just two names I really liked individually, Damien was already taken IIRC so I threw the two together. Nothing special.

But most people here know me simply as Damien or D_A now.

lordlonelobo
06-07-2009, 11:00 AM
A long time ago, I started off using a name of "Killer", but it's far too common and bland.

I then switched to "Swinger" instantly after playing Interstate '76. However, one Yahoo! search (the common search engine at the time) informed me it was a poor choice of handle.

Sometime after this, I read a book, in which the main character has a handle of "Lone Lobo", which I took and used for my name everywhere I needed to. Apparently it was liked by other people, and is quite commonly taken before I end up anywhere that I need to be (I managed to snag the Gmail address, though. Granted I got it when Gmail was still invite-only). At some point, I played Star Wars: Jedi Academy online, and someone said "My Lord". I added Lord in front, every once in a while. For example, my alt-name on IRC is usually prefixed with lord.

Since then, I've added lord in front, in some cases, depending on whether I want to or not, not necessarily because it's been taken, for example, these forums. I didn't bother to check if lone lobo was taken, I just went with lordlonelobo.

On Xbox LIVE, LoneLobo was already taken, so I added Lord in front.

Edit - changing my name at this point is probably a waste of time. I feel unique enough with this name, I like it, and I'm identifiable by it.

Altered Reality
06-07-2009, 11:02 AM
My favorite movies and stories are those where the main character questions reality and reality itself starts unraveling and/or altering around him. That's also a theme of my Prey mod, which is called, unsurprisingly enough, Altered Reality.

Rider
06-07-2009, 12:39 PM
My name is actually derived from Raider. I was playing Total Annihilation a lot at the time and I needed a password, which became Raider, one of the units for the Arm (I think). Shortly after, whatever silly service I was using the password for required me to change my password, and since I'm terrible at remembering anything I just chopped off the a.

Not long thereafter I registered here and it kind of stuck.

Several years ago, I was addicted to the computer game Final Doom. The URL of the Final Doom official site was http://teamtnt.com/ixfd.htm. For some odd reason that may never be explained, I thought the letters "ixfd" sounded cool. The game had 64 levels and I thought 64 was a really cool number. Yeah, I blame Nintendo 64 for starting the trend.

Not in Piedmontese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piedmontese_language). "Mat" means "kid" or "son" in that language. And a rug is a "tapis" in Piedmontese. :p

Sang in french means 'Blood' :).

Actually, I always wondered why you choosed 'Sang'.

I used dan2091, which is also part of my e-mail. dan stands for my name 'Daniel'.

2091 is my birthday, and before someone says I was born on year 2091 (which I wasn't :)), let me explain that bit. it mixes the number of the day with the last two numbers of the year of my birth... which I used instead of putting the number of the month, which would have sound like 2007.

I was going to use the username 'Daniel', but at the time I believe it was already in use.. Later I realised someone else picked that username in 2007 (he's actually active now.. hi, :p).

That's it. If I could change something from it, I'd take off the numbers..

Parkar
06-13-2009, 08:28 AM
Ah, of course. That was foolish of me to not think of Piedmontese, my bad! :p

And in Sedish it is food.

My nick is simply the user name I had at uni with a "-1" removed as I suck at comming up with names. In other words it's just my first name (Pär) followed by the 3 first letters of my last name (Karlsson).

Turns out it's aperantly a name in Inda and Pakistan but apears to be fairly uncommon as a nick anyway. Only thing that sucks is that I didn't manage to snatch parkar at gmail. I did how ever manage to get a hold of parikar which is an alternate version of parkar made by adding rik as in my middle name Rickard.
