It doesnt have the option in max payne. It just has the Direct 3d.Open GL is ten times better than direct 3d so why cant I use it?

OpenGl ain't the game for compability reasons. If they could focus on D3D then they could make full use of the API. And it doesn't suck mate. D3D is very nice on MAX-FX.

If it was open GL half the problems people are having with the game wouldnt exist.

OPEN GL ROCKS! Im pretty sure all problems would be solved if we werent using d3d.

I m sure that the guys in Remedy know what they are doing mate. OpenGL doesn't have that edge it used to have a while ago mate and even if all top range cards fully support OpenGL there are some graphic cards that may not support OpenGl so well.

You're confusing a good implementation with a good API. Like it or not D3D will mostly likely be the future, and its for good reason.

Care to give examples? What problems in the game are the result of D3D?

D3D also allows an easy port to X-Box.

Ok i upgrade to a d3d card and its lock ups galore, my old gfx was a voodoo 3 3500 and i didnt get one single solitary lock up using it as it wasnt d3d based.
As for max payne unless i run the game in anything other than low settings it will lock up within 10 minutes in d3d. Now i can run UT all day in opengl on any graphics, sound setting i want. But i wouldnt even dare to use d3d as if i tried to do that then it would lock up like max payne is doing on any setting above low, thats with doing all the fixes to the direct sound part of it.
Now my comp is a decent machine, p3 650 640mb ram gf2 mx 200/400 32mb, and before i went to a d3d based card i had no problems with any games at all. So i think from my experience i can safely say d3d is crap for games. Anything that means i can only run in low res or low settings for games is a complete joke.
d3d may be the future but right now it isnt as a lot of us can testify to.

As far as i know voodoo cards do support D3D, I don't know where you guys get that it doesn't, as I'm certain it does.
Most people blame everything that does not work well to a lot of things exept to theirselves because they think they know everything, well get over it, you don't. I've had my share of discomfort with pc's, and it is mostly some configuration error. Not a drivers fault or so, just some tiny detail you overlooked.

D3D is pants compared to Open GL.
I got no problems with Max Payne, but vertain bits dont render in the middle distance on cut scenes and I get all sorts of jip with it on other games.
Open GL is safer.
