When i play Max Payne for the most part it seems to run fine.. However at certain points the game locks up, mostlyy after a quicksave reload.

I did think this was totally random, but it seems to happen a lot more if not always on the levels that have snow falling form the sky, (eg, outside levels and the Blood maze night mares)

Any level where you spend the whole time indoors is fine for me.

I have seen the symptons listed a few times on here, the graphics totally freeze, but sound can be heard and you have to reset the computer.

However I use Windows XP, and if you leave the game for about a minute then the computer restarts, and gives you error messages when you get to the desktop.

Basically what happened is that the 3dfx display driver just decided to crash for some reason. This kind of stuff should not happen but on a "soon to be released" operating system with "legacy 3dfx hardware" you should not expect everything to run properly.

Unfortunately for the 3dfx card owners, 3dfx doesn't exist anymore and there's no proper drivers available anymore. images/icons/frown.gif

You might want to poke around with various unofficial beta drivers made by the 3dfx community, but there's nothing we can do to help your problem right now.

so you cant even make it work with the default drivers that come with the OS? pffffft

cant say im suprised that you've used the XP isnt out yet card, the code is finished (you should know that surely)

funny how those drivers work with every other game out in D3D
