i recently installed the full version of max payne. Problem is when i click play on the option screen, u know the screen where u set ur graphics and stuff, the screen turns black like it is about to start and play but right as its doing so the error comes up. it says "Ddhelp caused an invalid page fault in module winmm.dll" then i click close and it just freezes, i am then forced to do the ctrl+alt+del to end that task to go on and do anything else. I was able to play the demo perfect but not this. I installed and downloaded all the lastest drivers for sound, graphics, and direct X, my system is as follows
AMD Atholon 750 MHZ mmx 3Dnow
256MB of ram
10 gig hard drive
Nvidia Geforce2mx 32 mb
DirectX 8
win 98
VIA sound system
please help me i was so pumped when i got the game and then it doesnt work.

I am getting the same error - I still don't have a clue! I have essentially the same system. Nvidia Geforce 2 32mb ddr, via sound, 256 mb ram, athlon 1.2ghz.

I disabled my sound for another problem, forgot and tried to run MP and it worked - without sound. Disable your sound and see if the game runs. Let me know!

Well - for the answer..... install a new sound card! I have a biostar MB with built on sound. Sucks! I had an extra sound card installed it and it is working very well.

Hey I am having exactly the same problem, I can't wait to get MP to work. Again I played the demo fine, here is my system specs.

800mhz AMD Thunderbird
VIA sound system
384mb of RAM
20gig HD
GeForce3 Gainward Cardexpert 64mb

PLEASE help me! I found someplace that had Tech help for this same error but for a different a game, and they said to uninstall DirectX and Reinstall it, but I haven't gotten the chance to try it yet. Any ideas? Maybe we need to download the latest drivers for VIA sound system or Mainboard. Has anyone figured this out at all?!

EDIT: I tried disabling my sound and it worked fine! Anyone have any ideas? I also downloaded the new 4-in-1 driver for my AMD, MSI mainboard.

SOLUTION that MAY work images/icons/smile.gif

well it worked for me and i had same errors..

Go into Max Payne directory:

Then into Movies:

Then change the name of the movie from "intro" to something else... game should run fine it worked for me images/icons/smile.gif

Seems you all have VIA Sound in common. go to Via Arena and download the latest 4-in-1's + the audio driver.
