installed max payne and it was freezing at the start of the game so i went to the faq's in tech support and they sayed something about the sound card aureal vortex and driver issues .....so i found a site called www.vortexofsound.com... (http://www.vortexofsound.com...)
and that fixed the freezing problem
but now i've got the ati radion ve card problem with slight glitching and max going invisable on the higher resolution.
i was looking at the tech support and it sugested that i put the (D3D HARDWARE s+L) on but i've only got the software s+l to select from in pm setup... does the ati card accually have hardware s+l ?

i also upgraded to the bata driver version but it conflicts with the dvd drivers ...so i switched back to the recomended driver from ati

I don't have your card, but I have the radeon64DDR, wich should have the same chipset,
so it should support HW T&L. I have used the beta drivers since I bought it half a year ago, and Max has been perfect on it, as has most new games.

That thing there about conflict with DVD, is right. I use the old DVD drivers ver.3.2.0.1.
I must, since I run win98.

They can, and should, be installed separate to fit your system. Go for the latest betas, I say. It's common knownledge the official ATI drivers that came with the radeon was crappy.

Actually the Radeon VE (Value Edition) doesn't support HWTL.

Not? Well, that don't give them much value.

if the games keeps freezing, disable agp acceleration in directx 8.0 (or higher)

Actually the Radeon VE is a goddamn business card with a gaming performance you better not speak about.
